Whoosh hybrid turbo or TT S280 turbo?

I’ve been looking around and am finally ready to pull the trigger on one of these turbos. I’ve seen some logs and they look pretty similar (up to around 6.5k where the whoosh turbo seems to slow down a bit, but not drop off)

They’re both similar in price so that’s not an issue, I’m just wondering witch one without upgrading fuel, is better. I know it’s a vague question so any input is great. I’m just on the fence and need someone on either side to throw a rock at me and push me over.

I also know “technically” they both can max out fuel so it would be about the same for both. But which does it better?

(I was leaning towards s280 up until now, and I really like the whoosh turbo, but also can’t find any vids on it either)

Any info on either would be great

Why not pick the one that spools faster. Assuming they are very close together in power output.

If you have easy access to ethanol the s280 is the easy choice. If not it's a bit tougher choice but I would still go with the s280 but either or on 93 will make similar power. On ethanol with aux the s280 will make significantly more.

Yea that would have made my decision easier, but sadly being from south jersey, I only have one option for ethanol, and it’s a 45min drive from where I live

Since I’m in California I have a notion that I’ll be able to pass smog with the Whoosh Hybrid - so that is my plan, otherwise I’d go S280 because it spools about as fast as the Whoosh, is a slightly larger body turbo so it will stay cooler, and has more room to grow than the whoosh unit.

If you care about #’s go s280. From what I’ve heard the hybrids feel more torquey and are probably more fun around town. If you are open or aux fuel and/or meth definitely go s280. You can’t go wrong with either choice. If possible see if you can go for a ride in a hybrid car to help make up your mind.

Are you kidding? You asked if the MRX turbo was reliable for him? His engine literally blew up running that turbo. It was the DEFINITION of UNRELIABLE. His engine literally blew up. I cannot be more clear.

How in the ****ing world are you going to call me an "useless user of this forum". Look at how many posts I have and how many likes those posts have received. I will not defend my constructiveness on this forum to a user such as yourself.

P.S. At least have the decency to write your derogatory remarks in English, the language of which this forum is based.

Empty users like this should be canceled in this type of forum. This is why they later spy on them.

I have the whoosh hybrid and I am definitely pleased with it. Install was easy and I've had no problems with it in the 3k miles it's been on my car. The fiesta isn't my daily so I don't put too many miles on it but as long as its installed correctly and you do the proper break in procedure I dont see it causing any issues. The best part is not getting beat by v6 minivans anymore haha.

half the time threads in this forum go off topic into a big dumb argument..

Anyways, I was eyeing the whoosh turbo as well, so I too was hoping to some real opinions on it.

I edited your post above to show the statements I disagree with.

I disagree with these statements. Peak power on a Fiesta ST with stock fueling is a known quantity. Both the whoosh turbos and the S280 can max out the stock fuel system (this has been proven time and time again) so the only things separating the two options are airflow potential and heat generated. We know that the S280 is more efficient because is it larger and can flow more air and those who speak to our tuners (who see multiple turbo options) are able to compare apples to apples datasets. The whoosh unit generates more heat as it flows above 30 lbs/min when compared to the s280.

The initial "oomph" you describe is the initial torque number. Here's an example I pulled on the vdyno in this thread of the whoosh hybrid turbo: https://www.fiestastforum.com/threa...lls-results-dynos-reviews-thread.19537/page-4

If you compare it to the host of graphs posted here: https://www.fiestastforum.com/threa...t-dyno-virtual-dyno-and-datalog-thread.22987/

You can see that you wouldn't notice the difference between the turbos if just driving the car between 2k-5k RPM. The additional headroom of the S280 above 5k RPM compared to the whoosh unit is just a bonus.

The fact that you say that the whoosh hybrid may be less reliable to your engine is true, as it becomes less efficient as people try to push them beyond 33 lbs/min of air above 6k RPM and adds additional heat to the system.

I'd ask that you clarify your statements and provide some more insight into why you made these statements. I truly cannot see a reason to get the whoosh unit when the S280 is just $100 more and includes additional components that you otherwise likely upgrade when buying the hybrid (i.e. hotside charge pipe).
