Yeah trying to find that is gonna be difficult, a link would rock though
I found it in like 2 seconds just type in s280 2j and a discussion about the 2j pops up in the search the video is in the thread. Idk how to copy the link from it via the app and through tappatalk

I do know that Ron said the S280 sounds like a jet engine when I was asking about it on is car. That sound is remincsent of a Jet turbine in your vid.
The initial part before the 7 second mark, i think is how is supposed to sound.

it reminds me of supercharger whine. I have heard Superchargers whine like that consistently.
I owned a gto with a Maggie on it and supercharger whine sounds nothing like this turbo lol and that supercharger was particularly loud.

Did you take your Exhaust manifold off? If so I'd be rechecking the manifold bolts/ nuts to make sure they are still tightened to spec. Just food for thought*

working words here are “ it reminds me” not ”it sounds exactly like or does sound like” lol
Something can remind a person of something with being the exact thing. lol
comprende?

bolts and nuts are brand new, i replace them when I install the turbo / whoosh manifold. Doesn't smell like exhaust fumes when running, no exhaust leaks evidence around the manifold, AFR are consistent. i recheck the nuts the other day and are torqued to spec

I said the same thing....found 3 bolts missing or backed out. I think it's like studs 12-15 lbs Tq nuts 89 inch lbs.

10 Nm the bolts
21 Nm the nuts, torque all 9, then retorque them to 21Nm again

I had the same sound with mine. Sounds like cupping a blade of grass between your fingers and blowing. Mine turned out to be a loose clamp on a coupling going to the intercooler. I built my own boost leak checker and found it that way. Easy to build and not expensive at that.

@felopr : I can confirm that sound is not normal. The initial spool up sound you hear between 1 second and 6 seconds into the video is the turbine sound Ron was likely referencing. Mine sounds like that always, just louder, because I have the CP-E intake. My first thought was that your turbo was making contact with the block. I had to file a lot to ensure it didn't make contact. I would double check yours.

My second guess would be what @TyphoonFiST mentioned above which could be a lose exhaust manifold nut or stud (or multiple). I have had this happen in the past due to the low torque values on these. I'll be checking my own this weekend after 1K miles.

It also wouldn't hurt to check if the compressor wheel is making contact with the housing. very unlikely but possible.

Also this ^ is solid first hand advice.

Since you put in the effort, I will get you a video by Wednesday of my turbo noises. Roads need to dry before I take the car out though.

Do you by chance or anyone knows the measurement of the s280 inlet? 3 inches?

Sorry, can't remember the diameter. But go back and tighten all of the clamps on the pressurized components and go out and drive it. I do know that I came across a post, can't remember if it was here or elsewhere, but an individual stated that he had a similar noise. Turned out that it was a leak at the exhaust manifold where it meets the head. I guess the gasses leaking past the gasket and the gasket acted as a reed. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Yeah, trying to make a leak tested and just wanted to know the diameter for the silicone coupler. Pretty sure is like 3 inches like the gtx turbos. The ramair crossover is like 2.75 inches and the coupler for the turbo is a little bit more bigger

Another thing I cant stress more....buying the extra clamp kit for all boost hoses from Ron at whoosh to double up....I did it and it helped with blowing hoses off!

Just double clamp the stock hoses where it's prone to blowing off. Never had an issue with this turbo or my hybrid. It's prone to blowing off at the hotside connection of the intercooler and the other side of the hotside pipe.

Just swap everything to T-bolt clamps and you shouldn't have any problems. My car was converted to T-bolts right after I did the first tune, no issues with hoses popping off.
You can do this but it's expensive and not really needed. I've had just two extra clamps at those locations for over 12k miles with no issues. Just cheesy worm gear clamps. Ran 29psi sustained on my hybrid for a while.
