When did I say she wasn't lol i advise people away from hybrids If they have access to ethanol. I was simply stating the mrx is trash. Atp kits are also not the greatest.

You can say the MRX is trash but what qualifies you to say that?

Look people we are talking about a 1.6 liter engine car. We are also talking two different things.
First off most people running on the street are gonna be happy at 300 whp. So quite this BS about journal bearing vs ball bearing. They are not going to be pushing the Turbo hard enough for it to matter.
Most people are not trying to go 330 whp or higher for the ones that do great go get a ball bearing based Turbo.
Fact is that group is a small group.
So stop shitting on the people running journal bearing Turbo’s for our application they are fine.
We are not talking 2 liter to 2.6 liter engines here.

The S280 for all intensive purposes looks to be a pretty damn good Turbo for the people looking for a spec built not over amped hybrid.
The S242 was a good turbo for what it delivered.
It all comes down to what the person wants a person looking to get 280-300 whp reliably will be quite happy with a S280 they do not need to put a GTX2860r Gen 2 on their cars.
Hell some might even be happy using the Hybrids though you are touching the upper limits at 300 and over on a hybrid in my opinion.

P.S. this thread is about the S280 and its not a hybrid its a bespoke Turbo.

Ball bearing cartridge vs journal and thrust bearings is a worthwhile conversation when assessing longevity. What turbo are you running?

I do but I bought it because it was cheap and I was working on a supercharged gto project at that moment. It performs great for what I paid for it brand new.

Since we're already OT, I'll just continue it.

Installed my BA intercooler yesterday, super simple, straigthforward. Charge air temps are 2* above ambient, and I saw a max of 109* at WOT in 5th last night. I think it will be just fine for the S280. To clarify I had a Garrett core ATP intercooler and I was seeing 130*+ temps in 4th / 5th

Aubrey put down 330 on an x47 with aux and Wesley put down 340 with the whoosh with aux. Thats overspinning the piss out of them but it's possible. You still think an mrx is the tits so ur opinion is not valid.

My buddy barely broke 290 in his hybrid with meth. Loads of timing and a peak boost of around 29psi which drops off on the top end, don't know how much it does drop off though

Hybrids are generally not consistent with power due to heat. When its hot out they just are working outside of their thermal efficiency. I see vdynos on the same road between 280-320 on aux and e50 depending on how hot out it is.

Sounds pretty normal to me. fall winter and spring will always have better results than summer.

that's just cause Vdynos are not consistent either.

In my area all GTX, Hybrid, MRX, S242 are all peaking in the same HP range on pump gas, due to crappy gasoline that is "93oct". 265-275whp depending on weather. Only really difference is seen with add ons line Meth, E30/40 and/or port.

All this fighting about over inflated numbers which are not really real world results is kinda funny. Specially basing results from people you don't really know that dynoed under really different conditions.

Having said this, that video where the S280 Dynos 270 something whp, makes sense for pump gas.
