surprised you went with Ravenol after numerous post that you would use Ford OE fluid if you ever changed?
I don't remember that? I'm not a OEM fluid person.

well, if anything the video further confirms that more people should really check the trans fluid level. There should be a PSA stickied on the forum.
Needs to be done from day one for sure. My bad for taking 9,400 miles.

Because of that gnawing itch, I ordered another bottle of ravenol. Gonna add another 100-150 ml to ease the soul. I will attempt to measure as well with a ziptie, but I don't have much hope.

Park with the hole facing down hill a little, fill it until it overflows and plug it.

Now you've got me thinking that the 2 I ordered are not gonna be enough if its low from the factory and I need just a wee bit to get it where its supposed to be.

Odds are you will be fine, but it couldn't hurt to have 2.1 ish liters in there. Better a tad over than under [emoji6]

Something tells me that we are supposed to have 2.1 liters in there like it says in the owner's manual for the 5 speed gearbox Fiestas.
Typos are not unheard of. I remember reading about the Mazda 6, where the owner's manual stated 1.7qts for the MTX gearbox, but 2.4 was the actual spec.

Usually on any kind of gearbox that I change the oil in . I drain it until its completely empty then fill it up until it starts dripping out the fill hole and let it drip until it stops then plug it. But your right , best to have a little extra on hand just in case.
Looks like a trip to Amazon in a few minutes for 1 more and I always run across something that I can use there so . Off we go [twothumb]

Exactly, on both points

I’m assuming the instructions say, check oil fill on level ground. I had 2L in mine filled on jack stands. Unplugged the fill hole on level ground and just a tiny bit came out. I don’t know if it was residual oil clinging to the case, but I don’t think so as the car sat for a few minutes before performing maintenance.

If the car was driven before that, my guess would be thermal expansion. Oil expands when warmed up.

So if your theory about thermal expansion is correct. Let’s assume the oil expands 4.5% in volume for every 100F. Changing the warm oil at 150F (estimate) would be a volume increase of 4.6 ounces (.135L).

This is close to the extra amount people are talking about buying an extra 2L bottle of Revonal and adding to their transmission.

Am I wrong?

Ok, fiddled around with it this weekend. I even took some scope pics.
I used a ziptie to measure. I did it 2 ways.

1) I measured the width of the threads of the fill hole (15mm) and bent the ziptie at that measurement to go straight down, so as to be snug against the inner wall of the bottom of the trans where the fluid sits.
With 2 liters in, I got a consistent 17mm to 18mm.

2) I measured it the way @koozy does. More straight out with a curve at the end, with the straight part parallel to the ground when inserted. The curved part hits the oil and that spot is then measured from the straight part with the curve at a 90 degree angle (like he did in his diy dipstick thread).

This method was difficult, to say the least. Mostly because of the flexibility of the ziptie, and also it is difficult to get a clear path without a visual of the inside. Also, maintaining the dipstick in a parallel to the ground position, was near impossible without accidentally dipping it too far one way or the other. I could not get consistent readings, so I won't post the results.
As a result of the second method, I ended up adding 75ml, just to be on the safe side. After that, I was consistently well within the 20mm with method #2, even with variations.

One more thing, took some scope pics. The top of the fluid shows a reflection from a metal cross-beam. At 2 liters, it's just below it (tiny gap). I didn't scope after the 75ml additional oil, but I would imagine that the gap would not be there.

TLDR: I ended up adding 75ml to get me to 2.075 liters. I surmised that 2 liters is mostly likely in fact enough, but added a bit extra for piece of mind.

*And as it turns out, 2.075 ltrs was the exact amount I put in when I did my first fluid change at 6,000 mi (OEM for OEM). I had the container I used back then with a line marked at the spot of the amount used. 2.075 liters exactly hits it.
