I am looking for an excuse/justification to do a down pipe lol. The depo racing one is so cheap that it makes me 75% of the way to pulling the trigger. I just dont want a loud rice boy exhaust but the extra pep will be nice.

I notice Depo racing has a catted pipe as well hmmm. I just got an exhaust ordered will need to see how loud it is then I guess based on that I can make a downpipe choice
I have a video on YouTube of mine before and after I did a resonator delete with a catless down pipe, you can be the judge of if it sounds rice.

With the stock exhaust it doesn't sound bad at all. I just bought a catback which is said by some to be loud to begin with, adding a DP can either be terrible or not bad at all.

Ive had some cars that with no cats they arent bad and I have had a few that I wanted to kill myself. In the end I think the only way to see what sounds good or bad is take the plunge myself.

you get this put on yet? If so what are your thoughts. I assume you will have to or have run a de-fouler so no codes are thrown?

I wish I wouldnt have seen how cheap these are cause now I want one
So far I love it. Combined with my MBRP exhaust, my car sounds amazing. It has burbles and pops at low speeds and a nice deep tone when you step on it. With the stock airbox and Cobb panel filter you can hear the turbo spool very easily. The way my car sounds consistently puts a smile on my face.

Anyone that has taken a good look at the OEM DP would have to consider it horribly restrictive but it seems not enough flow from the tiny stock turbo to matter.

Stock
ATP
RAAM full 3" with huge cat(probably to big but it did heat up and worked well)

Notice stock inlet offset, I was going to open it up using larger diameter wider radius bend SS tubing to allow more direct flow across the core.

Stock outlet, very small, offset and 02 port right in the middle of that tiny area, I was going to open up the outlet as I had the inlet and better position the 02 port.

With those mods it might help the stock turbo a bit, only testing would show it of course and it might even flow fine for the Cyborg or other not to big a turbo.

The reason I wanted to do this was for those in areas with strict testing, inspections, etc, they could have a Cyborg or stock and better flow and not have to pull parts for inspections, not for my own use.

I believe we should run a cat when we can though not running one currently I still want to and looking into it as an adjustment to the plans for the next turbo swap which I already paid for a few months back but been to busy to pull my parts to have them modded for it.

True 3" DP, ATP, stock.

You should be able to get the bungs at any exhaust or exhaust supply shop.

Glad I could help:)

My DIY DP was longer than stock but I built the exhaust as well so it all fit just fine until I went to a DHM EFR I had Russ build for me then I had to add some to the front of the CBE to make it fit.

I mean the flex section you used on your downpipe, not the entire downpipe. I need to buy one for mine. But I need it to be stock length.

Hey guys thanks for some good info. I'm new to the car and forum, just a few weeks, but have been modding a good while in previous builds. Yes the OEM DP is quite restrictive and gains can be had with an aftermarket DP, which I plan on doing eventually.

After reading all of this though I was shocked to find so few comments like the one I quoted above. I've run catless and catted and all sorts of combinations on my Subaru/Acura/Toyota builds in the past....and seen the error of my ways....let me go against the grain here and share the voice of reason. For a few HP is is worth it to (1) break the law (2) not be able to enjoy the car with your windows/sunroof open at any stop (3) run the risk of giving yourself and others around you cancer and who knows what else from breathing that crap? There is a displeasure of having a nearly new car that leaves your clothes smelling like exhaust funk when you park it. Is it really worth a few HP?

There is a reason catless exhaust is illegal - again, coming from someone who's been there and done that, for a few less HP and a little more $$$ I would like to see more of us thinking clearly instead of finding the fastest way to more power, regardless of whether or not it is the right thing to do.

Just my .02....disagreements welcome and expected, it's all good.

again some say this isnt entirely true with the tiny stock turbo..find the adamtuned thread page 7

Its federal law which is rarely if ever checked at that level in regards to a consumer On a state level only a few states even bother to check. Lastly, VW got away with it lol

(2) not be able to enjoy the car with your windows/sunroof open at any stop
Maybe youre a ninny but heck I have had several catless cars, BMW E30, 11 Mustake GT, LS-1 RX7, SR powered 240 to name a few, and none of them were as terrible as you lead on when the windows were down or up for that matter. Furthermore its not like the fiesta is a 1960's era cam'd big block with open headers lol

Cancer? really? LMAO!!! yeah man the cars exhaust is the big cancer causing agent in our environment. Id rather be concerned about water, food, and other pollutants in our environment being a cancer causing agent over the gases coming from tail pipe. That point is mute

I think your thinking clearly plan has a few holes in it. I am not saying dont do your part but shit a catless fuel efficient car, like the fiesta, is far less toxic hydrocarbon wise than that Jalopy suburban still running around from the 70-80-early 90's or any other car from that era for that matter.

Sounds like you're saying it's OK to break the law and pollute the environment and lend to poor human health based on your justification that everyone does it and the world is going to hell anyway. Lord of the Flies!!!!! Go read it.

But seriously, I respect our differences, and I'm the biggest hypocrite of all because I've run several cars catless. I'm just older now and don't feel the need to anymore, and feel more a sense of responsibility and respect for the law, environment, and other humans. On another note, my little brother is dying of lung cancer right now, so I'm a bit more sensitive to these things. But at the same time it was inconsiderate people like me who didn't care just a few years ago that could have contributed to it just because I wanted a few extra HP to feel good about myself.

Basically all your arguments are invalid.

The laws that do state that a car must have a cat, only apply to vehicles driven on public roadways or that could create a potential disturbing the peace, if too close to a home or public place.

So really the laws only vehicles on the public streets.

The race track, private property etc is all fair game.

I am assuming you mean to say "the laws only apply to vehicles on the public streets".

By that logic, as long as you never use a public street, you are never breaking the law nor are in any violation of the standards you are setting here. Sounds fair.
