OK here goes. So im guessing i know what you guys will answer with but i'll shoot anyway. I was looking for videos of dyno runs on our MK7 and found one on the MK8. Keep in mind it's rated at a smaller engine size, 1.5L EB. THIS VIDEO the reviewer has a stock MK8, rated at 197BHP (anybody have the figure for WHP?). So, this guy says he took his REVO tuned MK8 to an independent dyno shop, one not owned by Revo or Ford, bc he wanted a more objective run. Unless he's flat out lying, at least he's trying to be objective.

So with a stock engine pumping out 197BHP, the dyno ran it at a peak of 263. Now he mentions the REVO software is a remap, which if i understand is what we call a flash? I can't find enough info on it to know if it's like an AP based install but it's similar to our AP ect in that it rewrites a new ECU map and that's what's important.

So why am i bringing up this car and video? Because it supposedly gained 66hp on stock hardware with nothing but software to increase power and most people here are making that sound insane in our MK7 cars. Now no the fact isn't lost on me that this is a new car, the parts might not be exactly the same but it's a slightly smaller displacement and it's the next gen of our car and very similar in many ways.

So my guess is you guys will say the turbo in that car is some super stock turbo and i don't have enough info to argue against that. But i hope anybody making claims is honest and knows for sure instead of just saying things. Stock MK8 getting 66hp just from software. Yes it's able to tweak all things in the car not just the boost (bc it's ECU software, not just a bost hack), but i could swear i remember Jeff saying even a MK7 stage two AP won't get past 220, and that's with bolt ons. So why the big discrepency?

Our MK7 can only get to 220 with CAI and FMIC and stage 2, but the MK8 with a smaller engine can get to 263 stock with just a reflash? Either that car's turbo is light years ahead of ours, or you guys are wrong about the limits of our MK7 turbo. I am skeptical but wanted to ask this in the form of a question bc i admit i don't actually know the truth. And even if some people think i don't listen, i do.
First, his car isnt stock, he lists at least exhaust and intake in that video description - so we don't know what his numbers were before the remap (pretty important information if we're gonna discuss gains). Second, he's measuring in BHP not WHP like that 220 number you're using for the MK7 should be (and I think it's more like 230 from what I've read, but I could be very wrong on that). So if you account for the BHP > WHP loss, he's probably *around* where I would expect with a good tune considering I know absolutely zero about that engine. It's still higher than I would expect to see, but again I don't know what numbers those motors throw out as we don't have the luxury to play with them stateside.

Last note, the FMIC is pretty irrelevant there - he's just doing a few dyno rips then shutting it down, not tracking the car or sitting in hot traffic at rush hour.

But i have read here from more than one source, the MK7 exhaust isn't very limiting at all, one poster said the main reason people get exhaust systems is for sound, not for the power if you are still using a stock turbo. So unless the exhaust on the MK8 somehow cranks up the HP in a way the MK7 doesn't, then that shouldn't account for much of that 66hp gain.

And how do you know they are using BHP for that 263 figure, did i miss it? I just saw the paper graph and the line indeed shows between 240 and 280. Does their dyno readout automatically convert it to BHP, and how do you know this is happening ?

First off the engines are quite different a Stock MK8 on a dyno before tune already puts out 209 whp. Now its rated at 215 from the factory but there is a good possibility it was underrated by Ford. As that would be at the crank. Seriously I am not surprised by the little 1.5 3 banger as they worked some serious magic designing that engine off the old 1 liter 3 banger.
For instance the 1.5 liter has both port injection and direct injection which opens the door for impressive fueling options . In fact the more fuel you can throw at an engine the more power you can develop given the engine in a turbo car case has the ability to use. Hence big turbos going to aux fuel aka port injection on top of our direct injection and developing big numbers i.e upwards of 350-400bhp. There is even someone shooting for over 400 right now in Texas Aubrey Mclure. I believe thats how her last name is spelled . We also have our own HiJinx who is up in that range as well.
So if Ford put a better Turbo on that engine than ours combined with the extra fueling it stands to reason that a tuner could extract more HP out of the engine. Not only that but they got more HP stock out of it than ours at .1 liter less displacement.

You have to realize with the MK8 Ford went after a lot of the complaints people had with the MK7.5 aka factory quaife LSD option. Aka more comfortable Recaros that sat lower. Even quicker steering a more modern dash , a little roomier, even more suspension work to still retain the spirit of driving that made the FiST such a hit over there.

All the while improving the ride so it was not so harsh as people felt and feel the stock MK7.5 can be.
So its not that shocking and way different you begin to see why the 1.6 in our cars stock will just not pick up another 50 hp with a tune. We do not have a secondary fueling system, we have a turbo that falls flat on its face power wise at 5500 rpm and its tiny.
So there you have it I am sure you will not believe it.

That's true, but idk if the same goes for the MK8 (likely, but unsure)

So assuming the likely is true, then even with BHP it's still a 66bhp gain, what's that likely to be about 40whp?

No because the stock engine is dyno tested at 209 WHP which means stock the engine is putting out around 230 crank. Which means they only got a 36HP gain and if you bothered to read my post above you would know why they got that.

I mean people can have debates and discussions without getting upset. It’s so funny that people see debate these days and think people are upset. They only time people get upset is when people start throwing insults and making it personal,
That seems to be a problem in our country these days and its fostered by the current President.

Good, then i guess that means that gain isn't all that crazy for just software and a likely negligible catback. Sounds fairly similar to the claim of race chip's 37hp gain, which assuming they are listing bhp, is what, 20-25whp? I would be very happy with that, thank you.

I am not upset lol. I just gave him the info he asked for whether or not he chooses to take it into account is on him. Lol I have no reason to be upset.
Denying it is the clearest sign you are upset. And i don't know why you are getting this way, it's just a conversation about cars.

Honestly a 10-20 gain by the racechip would be closer to reality but still its not the wisest way to get it. Which actually brings us straight back to the crux of the discussion. We have been advising you to spend your money wisely return the racechip get the $250 ad another $100 and get a used AP and you would be a very happy person.
Its just that simple, why through money and time towards something that is not proven when there is something well proven?
You start to see why we scratch our heads about what you want to do.
Just saying man you do you.
