:p I think it was 2135 cc or somewhere around there, shook like it was going out of style. I remember learning (the hard way) why drag beatles used skinny tires - if you launch hard and the tires *don't* break loose, the engine ejected out the bottom of the car lol.
In the business they call that torquey 🦃

Back in the day I had a hot 1600 crossflow in my little ford escort an old guy built it as a race engine and it had over pistons big valve head stage 2 camshaft high flow extractors lightened flywheel 2.0L Cortina twin throat Webber carburettor I went 1 number hotter with the plugs removed the ballest resistor so there was 12v at the coil. Replaced the old cylinder ignition coil with a "new school" compact 12v coil. That thing went crazy...!!! It would scream all the way to 180 km/h like it wanted another 2 gears... Only running the stock 1.6L GL 4 speed gearbox...

My point is that I'm pretty sure that escort was faster than my stock Fiesta ST is not much but maybe a little bit... Very hard to say but kinda crazy how fast a non turbo old school car can go with that old asf technology... Sounded fkn amazing tho..

They also weighed a bunch less than even our (light for current times) cars do now. [wink]

You definitely got the Brit/Euro Escorts there, and NOT our USDM versions, correct?

and a tuned exhaust with those loadable muffler packs at the exit (I forget the name) on my street-A/C car.
Super Trapp??

The full-on, built, rally and road race Cossie headed 2.0 lumps in the old, RWD, Group 4 Escorts were peaking close to 300 at the crank (of course, WAY UP HIGH in the rev range), pretty respectable for an old school, naturally aspirated, iron block 4 pot. [driving]

My last "small turbo daily driver" was a dodge SRT4, it was 230fwhp 262fwtq stock with nothing but a slightly bent WGA arm to hold boost to redline. It was fairly "low tech" compared to the FiST, but it made a lot more power and was lighter than the Fist (no power rear windows, the rear seats only had a hint of padding, it was built for lightness). In every measurable way it was faster than the FiST, but the FiST is decidedly nicer to drive on a daily basis. Also had a '63 vw beetle that went 10.63 but that was *awful* to drive.
I remember my SRT4 that thing was a beast, weighed about the same as the FiST but had quite a bigger motor. 2.4 turbo, and the mopar stage 3R, was upto something like 375hp

Yep, a Super Trapp. The fancy rich boys in their Sports 2000 ran the 2 liter block OHC engine and spun them a good 750 revs. faster than the 1.6 cam-in-block, even as a spec-engine. The Cossie YB was a beast then and even today. You can find them all over the place in vintage racing and crazy Caterhams.

Cosworth not Cossie
Disclaimer: I know Cossie is short for Cosworth

Sorry, I was actually referring to the original poster.
Oh I know. Just poke'n a funny or two. Some others here have already suggested a "driver mod". Boost is dumped when the accelerator is released to shift; which is more consequential for turbos versus naturally aspirated. I suspect "flat foot shifting" is an attempt at avoiding that but don't know that the poster is willing to do that as it's rather abusive compared to normal shifting. But in a close matchup, it may be the only way to compete with an automatic transmission.

I have done some rather aggressive accelerations from time to time. This gear box is one of the best I have driven in my life. Shifting is fast and precise. I find minimal lag gear to gear. Especially now that I have the new upgrades. Still have the stock turbo. Upgraded Inter-cooler, air intake, exhaust, and rear motor mount. I have not timed a 0-60 yet. I wonder what his times are though?

The 1.6L Kent. Great engines - I had a collection of them when I owned two Mk1 Fiestas and a Formula Ford. There's no way in hell that a N/A 1.6L Kent in anything is faster that a FiST. I had twin Webber 40 DCOE's, worked-over heads, a lumpy cam, headers, and a tuned exhaust with those loadable muffler packs at the exit (I forget the name) on my street-A/C car. I'll bet that I wasn't making more than 145hp up way high and near nothing down low. For the time, it was a killer hot hatch and sounded like a pissed-off motorcycle. I'm 100% sure that a stock FiST would just walk away from it. Fast is relative.

Track only, loosely-built, rebuilt every season, high-dollar Kents with steel cranks and unobtainium pistons pressing way over 12:1 with 45 DCOEs make 180hp. Sure, the FiST is a *lot* heavier, but it makes torque way, *way* earlier and longer than a built Kent. And I'll bet that a 180hp Kent (engine only) will cost about the same as a 2015 FiST (the whole car).
Ok well it was a long time ago.. like 10 or so years before I got the FiST but that escort was fast.. people would drive it and think they are going slow then look at the Speedo and start fkn laughing their heads off.. it had 352 Yokohama tires so I think that was half the reason for the hidden speed thing.. don't forget it's non turbo and the engine is making power for longer in the rev range than a FiST.. i have taken my FiST up to 190km/h but was down hill so hard to tell how well it did...

Just don't believe FFS is abusive at all, there is actually less sudden power ("lash") being sent to the clutch and driveline and is more rev matched for sure. I mean, you can literally feel it's actually less abusive compared to a normal shift, as long as your clutch is healthy overall, it can help keep it that way with less slippage time, feels very smooth!
