Likely only a very minute percentage of what's in the OCC permanently ends up on the valves. So what, I loose 2% of peak airflow which is only an issue at the 0.09% of the time I spend at WOT? I'll be among the first to let anyone know that I experience even the slightest of problem that can be attributed to build up on the valve face.

In short, meh. [sleeping]

I think the focus ST suffers from it more than the fiesta ST.. from what I find on the net..

Maybe because the Focus ST was out 2 years before the FiST and likely has more miles.

Yeah you can keep all that oil for three months. I promise you your valves are just as dirty

And to the guy who says the 1.6 does not have the same build up? .......I service write at Ford. All DI cars suffer the same

I never said anything about the valves. My point is that you are wrong when you keep saying the catch can is useless.

Not quite yet pat Sajak....have you compared heads off the vehicle at different mileages? I bet not...take your ballyhoo somewhere else. Id rather have OCC that catches something other than nothing and let that nice substance fly around the intake and collect.

I spend 99.09% of the time at WOT and am *very* concerned about the 98% drop in peak performance.

.

For those that speak of the "Italian tuneup"... you're more likely to pull crankcase vapors during high RPM and higher-G maneuvers. Not to imply that it is entirely a bad idea. Idling around town at 210°F is sure bake/harden any existing sludge. (however minute and insignificant the amount may be)

The thing is these are not opinions, this is fact. Whether or not the valves are cleaner is irrelevant, what I’m trying to tell you is that a catch can is not a waste or nonsense or whatever word you might use. I’m providing objective fact - a picture of what my catch can accomplishes, and you’re saying it’s nonsense.

I’ve drained it seven or eight times. That’s seven or eight ounces that has not made it into my system, my intercooler, maybe even my valves. The point is it IS doing something which you will not seem to acknowledge.

I’ll bet you nickel if you go reach under your car, loosen the hot side clamp, pull off the hot side pipe, and stick your finger in there, you’re gonna find a pool of sludge that is absent in my system because of my catch can. I haven’t looked at the valves but I have inspected my FMIC before and after and it is clean, the catch can is doing something.

Those hot exhaust gasses (during the schavaging) are bakeing that oil and toxic waste onto your valves... With a catch can it reduces the affect.. it's not a fix but just a way to reduce the problem...

The fiesta ST is built to be driven hard.. it needs it's engine to rev pretty hard like 5 - 6k every day or it will have problems any way .. has to be thrashed... Like my old escort with a hot 1.6 xflow...
