OK, I have a '14 FiST so it is the original Sync system.
I have never had a problem with Sync before but I had to buy a new phone.
Sync will not download the phonebook from my phone.

I have unpaired and deleted the devices on both ends and reconnected more than 3 times.

The phone seems to work correctly but I can't make outgoing calls using names because they are not there.

The phone is a new Samsung S9+ (Android).

Has anyone had this issue or suggestions on how to fix it?

On the phone you must give Sync persmission to access your phonebook.
Yes, I did that.
On Sync you can go to "Manage Phonebook" and "Re-Download but nothing.
The only number listed is my own.

BTW the phone works great in the car except using the phonebook.

On Android, there is usually a notification stating that sync wants to access your address book and you must say ok.

Well, you may want to do what quite a few of us have done - upgrade to Sync 3/APIM from a donor. Then, you can add a rear-view camera! But, most importantly, Android Auto - and you won't need the feeble Ford BT.

I am assuming MY14s have the USB ports... Mine is a 15.

Yes '14 has 3 USB ports.
My car already has a rear view camera.
Don't think I want to spend any more money and go to Sync 3.
I am sure there is a fix, I just haven't found it yet.

I can either shitcan the phone or just not call anyone while driving.

Android Auto may be an answer but I would prefer to keep the car's hands free system.

On Sync there is also a button to add a contact from the phone but I haven't figured how to do that either.
If I could just add a contact directly into Sync that would do it.

AA allows you to use the car's Voice Command button; you can send texts via voice, and, obviously, call your contacts. It's a complete integration, which is what makes it so sweet. Karl.

I guess I just might be stupid.

I installed Android Auto went through all the setups and it does not seem to do anything.
If I press the Sync voice command button all I get is the Sync lady with "Please say a command"

That suggests that it's maybe an "incomplete install". Do you get the AA screen on the FiST? Also, your phone will display an AA black screen once you are connected. Additionally, it may be an issue with the USB module in your car. For instance the module in my 2015 works with AA, but it would not work with Car Play - it's a known issue. I suspect that it may be that, actually... Mine is a 2 USB module with an SD card slot, different from yours.

I mean - you do have your phone hooked in via a cable, right?

That's odd. To complete the setup, you need to give permissions to the phone as well - I just went through this with the 3.0 upgrade on the Sync 3 module. Maybe it's the Sync 1 that you have (?) - is that's what on the 14s? (I am ignorant, yea).
Sync 2 is not compatible with AA.

OK, I figured out how to download the phonebook so now I can use the Sync system as it was designed.

The original problem i had that the phone's phonebook would not auto download.

The fix is to add a contact manually.

Navigate to the phone settings menu then scroll down to manage phonebook.
Next select "Add Contact From Phone".
You will then get a screen that says adding contact and there will be a zero for contacts added.
Now go to your phone's contact list and select "SHARE".
The will ask how, choose "vCard File".
Next the phone will ask you to select the contact, if you want to all then select ALL.
Watch the Sync screen and you will see that zero count up all your contacts.

Thank you, maestromaestro for all your help.

However now I don't have to upgrade to Sync 3 or buy a new car.
I also don't need any APPs to make it work.

I will start a new thread tomorrow with this fix after I make sure everything is correct.
Maybe we can make it a sticky so others can find it.
