Cobb / mtune - back to stock

After reading all the great build threads on this forum I decided to look more into the cobb access port and the mtune.

Can you run lets say a stage one tune (day to day), and then restore it to default (stock) for warranty purposes? Or does the on board computer keep track of these details?

pretty newb question so apologies in advance...

When you reflash the car with a tune the device stores a copy of your stock tune. You can revert back to stock anytime.

Harv--I think OP was asking if the onboard computer kept track of the switches of tunes back and forth, thus providing a recorder to dealer (or whomever) of one's naughtiness.

Did some searching...

(Not Ford specific) Depending on the severity of the warranty claim they can deny warranty because of data not matching on the ECU (checksum).

Guess I'll just wait till the power train warranty expires...

In the UK, the Mountune MP215 package doesn't affect warranty, as I understand it. I'm hoping their North American pkg will result in same, but no official word yet on either that or release date, etc.

My friend that is certified ford mechanic says they can tell even if you remove it back to stock. It's my friend and he may have been jacking with me I'm not sure . But his exact words where "don't change anything with the ecu we can tell"

I believe that 100%. Where I work, not Ford mind you, we can tell as well. And as soon as our scan tools notice that, it flags the VIN for the rest of the cars life. Doesn't matter if its sold, traded in, or won in a poker contest, its flagged and not forgotten.

As far as I remember Mountune is the only company that is backed by Ford's warranty and affiliated with Ford Racing.

Response from Cobb
If you leave the Accessport installed on your vehicle and take it do a dealer they can definitely tell that it has been flashed. Alternatively, if you uninstall the Accessport prior to taking it in we do not believe a dealer will be able to tell if it has previously been flashed. -
I highlighted the disclaimer in red.

I got a similar email from them after I started this thread. He basically said its up to how your dealer views modding the vehicle - if they don't mind then your good...

I read about the horror stories of Subaru of Canada flat out refusing warranty work for cars with ecu's that had adjusted variables (after going back to stock flash). I've also heard from a friend that his Dealer knew he had done a stage 2 on his STI and they replaced his blown engine without issue (under warranty). I realize its not ford but...

Has anyone seen a dyno chart for the mountune kit? I'd be interested to see how different it is from the cobb.

Right now they just have the intake and fmic here in the US...the tune has yet to be released

here's a dyno from a UK. Its a Fiesta ST MP215 with a full Milltek exhaust.

So flywheel upgraded vs bone stock at the wheels from Edmunds (thanks edmunds http://www.edmunds.com/car-reviews/track-tests/2014-ford-fiesta-st-dyno-tested.html)

I will wait until official Ford Racing numbers are released and then hopefully someone will buy and dyno soon after before I can say it will be worth it. Based on the UK dyno at flywheel that "might" translate to 188 HP and 214 or basically what the stock Edmunds dyno was.

I received another clarification from Cobb..hope it helps.
during the Uninstall process we return the ECU to the exact state it was in prior to install. As far as we know, the dealers do not have tools required to dig deep enough to tell if an ECU has previously been flashed
