Just got my XXR 527 17x7.5 +40 in the mail. Weighed them out and all of them came to a 17.9lbs per wheel. Probably 18lbs with the centercap. Lol so not terrible for the size. They will be the perfect dailies. Can't wait for the 15x8 6ULs to get produced.

The double bolt pattern extra lug holes are the only thing I don't like about those wheels. [:(]

But I guess they do save a couple of grams of un-sprung weight. [dunno]

What are you going to wrap these in for street use?
(I am thinking about the 17x7.5 OZ Superturismo LMs wrapped in either Star Specs or RT615Ks in 215/40-17 size for daily use - why I ask. ;) )

Post pics when u mount them
I definitely will! I will have them on my car Saturday. I'll be sure to post here as well as my build thread.

You know, I really am the same way. but after seeing the wheels in black in person... you don't even notice until you are close to the wheels. But if you had seen the roads in hawaii you would understand why I am not going to buy expensive wheels out here. no way. the 6UL will only be for track days and car shows. thats it. These being less than $100 a pop easy to replace!

Haha, i like the "extra holes save extra weight" comment

Yes, they are well under HALF of the Superturismo LM's price point!! [thumb]

Our frost heaved/semi truck destroyed roads here in Pennsyltuckey are not much better (IF not even worse in some areas), so I understand where you are coming from!

I am just hoping that the LMs, (IF I go that route) are manufactured VERY strong, and can take the 'punishment'.

I wouldn't worry about bending a rim. I'm from New York City and our roads are crappy as they come and I've only busted 2 wheels in my entire driving life and both were massive potholes at speed that caused it. Just about every car was lowered wether on springs or coil overs and always running 40 profile tires, so not much padding. Just know your roads and try to avoid the bumps. That's how i always drive.

I love having extra holes to lighten things, I built some great race car parts out of sheet metal and drilled big holes, used a dimple die to make them super strong, lighter and better than flat sheet metal. I have also drilled hundreds of holes in hoods, trunk lids, pillars, roof supports, etc on caged cars to reduce weight, very long time racer trick as weight is the all time enemy of all around performance so when I get free weight reduction in extra holes in wheels I am happy:)

I loved the look of the slotted holes on these Dial In wheels on my car with holes also in the rotor hats and hubs, seeing all the way through them looked really cool to me. I have a brand new set of these wheels I need to list up for sale, 15x9, 12.8lbs, second set I had, tires mounted then taken off, never mounted on a car, the Helix came out so I bought ten of them, better spoke design, stronger for racing, weigh a bit more, just round holes so not as cool looking.

No holes on the Helix but a stronger spoke and center design, still looks great.

-----------

If one must run a 17" wheel and drive on bad roads the 17.9 lb low cost 17x5, 4x108 bolt pattern XXR 527 seems a pretty good way to go as long as they hold up and they should do pretty well as a very solid design.

-----------

The OZ LM in that size but twice the price, low pressure cast so nothing special as for that money it should at least be flow formed and weigh less, seems way over priced so paying a lot for the name it appears more than the quality the price would indicate. For less that kind of money one can do the DIY 4x100 conversion and flow formed 17x8 wheels, Konig made Advanti Storm, 16.8 lbs, stronger and lighter wheels, $214 each.

For even less money there is also the Konig Hypergram, 16.3 lbs, 17x8, $165 each or the 17x7.5 Runlite, low pressure cast, 19lbs, $139 each and likely just as strong as the OZ.

OR, the best overall wheel size for this car, 16x8 Enkei RPF1, flow formed, 14.8 lbs, $214 each. Note, these will not quite fit over the standard 12.19" rotor WW BBK but there are two companies working on a different setup, one for sure will fit as I helped work that out for them to be available for my fellow enthusiasts as considerable cost in time and money as I just had to help make it happen, no profit for me except knowing others can get them when ready and they one set is specifically being designed to fit under some 15x8 and wider wheels:)

Still, to this day, those Helix wheels are my favorite looking on the FiST. and with all the benefits you get with them and the 4x100 conversion, it is still on my mind. but when I saw these XXR for less than $90 and then the 15x8 6ul coming out in 4x108 I thought why not!? But If I do get word the 15x8 4x108 6UL does not make the cut, then I will for sure swap over to the 4x100 and grab the Helix wheels for sure.

as always, thanks for the input RAAM! Once back mainland goals for the car are going to change significantly. but while out here I just really needed something that was lighter and nicer than the stock wheels, and cheap just in case something happens. especially since the car likes to drive itself under hard throttle input now. lol

Would we have to "storm the gates" of Konig to get them to make these wheels in a 4x108??

Have they said an emphatic and FINAL "NO GO" even if they had 10,000 pre-orders??

I am very reluctant to go the 4x100 route for MANY reasons, not the least of which is having to switch back to 4x108 if something happens and I have to sell the car with the stock wheels on it.

BTW; I agree with the Helix, both aesthetically and functionally, but want them in the factory PCD. [;)]

Also; what is the widest tire we can run on a 17x8 without major surgery/rolling/etc. anyway, and at what offset???

Would a 215/40 work on that wheel, in any way, shape, or form?

Going back to 4x100 is simple, press out the studs, press them into the into 4x018 holes:)

There is a DIY kit to drill them to 4x100 on the car as well so low in cost, no long downtime, etc...

You may like the Sparco Pro Corsa. They look really really good on our cars. The satin black is really nice because it hooks up with the black trim, but not being a gloss black, the wheel design doesn't just disappear, you get a good read on the shapes the wheel has and it has a decent curvature to it.

I think I'm going to put these up for sale and go with OZ's or go back to stock. I don't like the way that these have no curvature?!?

I will say my limited driving on 205/45-17's Cooper Zeons is pretty nice. Seems to smooth the car out?!?

Back to the drawing board!

Very understated. I like it. (might have "popped" more with a brighter or darker color than the car's body color)
Yes, I agree. I've formed some opinions as well on this whole 205/40-17 to 205/45-17 thing. With the 45's the car just didn't seem the same. I personally though it rode rougher, didn't handle near as good, and seemed sluggish so I performed an experierament and put my stock wheels and tires back on after some spirited highway driving. Wow! What a transformation! The car just seemed to do everything better and I thought it was comfortable?!? I also think the OEM wheels look pretty damn bad ass on the car. This sickness that I have with modding my rides wheels get so damn expensive. I will add that I decided to order 1 OZ Ultralegerra in Liquid Platinum to see how it's going to look. I did this on my VW before I decided on wheels and it worked out well. You can put tape on the lug bolts so that they don't scratch the test wheel and if you don't like it...send it back! If the OZ's don't tickle my fancy I'm just going to roll with stock wheels and get some very nice coil overs then call it a day!

Too much obsessing over this shit!

Ugh

Got mine mounted today.
XXR 527 17x7.5 +40 17.9lbs
Stock Bridgestone RE050 205/40-17
Stock height.
Can't lower it here in Hawaii without getting "recon" so that will come later. And I know these aren't the best pictures but I'm still trying to keep these a secret from the Oahu 808STeeze group until tomorrow, sooo[shhh] I will post better pictures tomorrow.

^^^Those do look really good, especially on a silver car. [thumb]

Even a little stretch to the B-stones.

I wonder if anyone makes plugs for the other bolt pattern holes that won't melt all over the place. [dunno]

What's the center bore size on those?

Thanks M-Sport!I'm happy with them. Probably going get new tires in the next couple months Most likely keeping the 205/40 but a much better quality tire. I may try out the new azenis summer tire.

Sure do, but i bet they would only stay in as well as the center caps would. A lot of companies make them, but I've never used them. and I'm sure if you went to tech your car on track they would have you remove them. but idk. it doesn't bother me really. Black wheels are hard to see unless in the light anyway. so I don't even notice them.

Some OCD tracks/run groups will make you remove the center caps, and require open ended lug nuts to run, but they are the exceptions. ;)
