I'll update in a month or so since my bootleg worked fine until it didn't. Was slightly slower but that could be my imagination, it occasionally would prevent me from enabling AA and required a reset but that didn't always fix it then it just reverted back without changing version number.

I've only had the official version for a day and I'm not sure if overwritting will cause it's own problems or not

I'm seeing a total of eight files that downloaded in the package from Ford:

autoinstall.lst
DONTINDX.MSA
SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-AA.tar.gz
SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-SB.tar.gz
SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G386-TBB.tar.gz
SyncMyRide\HN1T-14G381-SA.tar.gz
SyncMyRide\HN1T-14G391-BC.tar.gz
SyncMyRide\HN1T-14G423-BA.tar.gz

I've now copied each file individually to the USB stick drive (thanks for the tip)
Is it only supposed to be three files?

I am non-nav.

Also, would someone post a screenshot of how the files look on your USB drive? It may be that my download auto-unzipped the files in a way they aren't meant to be. For instance, the Ford site says that some files should be inside of a SyncMyRide folder... and that if they aren't the install won't work. Maybe this is my problem? A screenshot would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I had called Ford because it wouldn't give me the download file initially . On the phone they told me to ensure you transfer the files to the USB individually. As in the three files. So the myford touch folder , the auto install file , and the dontindx.msa file.

Mine was odd because I installed over the bootleg version so my phone information was still there for android Auto and BT audio

My nav downloaded version from Ford was 3 files. I copied them over to a thumb drive and placed thumb drive in car after starting it. Took about 20 minutes to install and 3 restarts to get everything operating correctly. Make sure you remove all other thumb drives prior to installation. Nav card can stay in the car. You can drive car while update occurrs...

I see the same thing Ive tried 3 times now and it says download failed and not compatible/not enough space and I got it directly from fords website. I even tried a brand new thumb drive formatted for exfat and nothing. The weird thing is when I unplugged the drive after over an hour it said download incomplete ???

I attempted the upgrade following the instructions on Ford's site. After getting to "Updating System Software" it never gave an error, confirmation prompt, or completed. I drove around for about an hour while it was updating, and figured after 2x recommended total time it was safe to assume something was wrong.

I spoke with Ford Customer Support and they said that the directions on the site were being updated and that they now recommend using a 4gb usb 2.0 drive to install the update (I had tried a freshly-formatted ExFat 128gb usb 3.0 drive.) I'm going to try once more with a 4gb drive and then take it to the dealer if it fails again.

That's what I had, interested to see how it goes with a 4gb 2.0 drive

Park your ride next to the house or in the garage.

Under Settings, WiFi, you can turn that on and connect to your home WiFi network.

Next you can go to Settings, General, Automatic Updates and turn that on.

=========================================

It should start to download the update.

I had started mine yesterday but it stalled for some unknown reason; probably because of weak signal and the car being off.

Will try again at some point and let you know if there are any other hitches.

I've tried that and for whatever reason it won't update and I have strong signal that's why I tried the thumb drive, now I can't find anybody in town here that has a 4gig 2.0 drive in stock. Best Buy was like "there out of date and nobody wants 4 gigs" wtf ugh some thing so simple shouldn't be this hard

I had some 32GB SD memory card lying around that I formatted with exFAT. Downloaded the file from owner.ford.com and unzipped it onto the card. I used a USB memory card reader. The install was for my 2016 with the stock Sync 3 v1. I felt like it was a waste to just turn on the car and let it idle for 30 minutes. So I was actually driving around when the update was happening. I wasn't sure if you could do that since it doesn't say you can or can't on the website. I took a chance and it was fine. Took about 25 minutes. I had to update a couple of setting and apps on the phone and the car's settings. But eventually the car saw it and it seems to run Android Auto well. YAY Ford!

Not sure why Ford wants you to use a 32gb card, maybe they own part of scan disk but that could be the issue

To anyone who installed the official release, can you let me know what the build number is?

So, has anyone here successfully updated a non-nav from the OEM software version 1? If so, please be VERY specific about what you did and how, including file names and number of files, etc. Thank you!.

Last I checked, http://www.microcenter.com/ has 4GB USB Flash Drives.

The "Batman" flash drive might have trouble fitting. [wink]
They even have one 2GB Flash Drive LoL.

ExFAT has better support for larger capacity flash drives.

This is why I was asking above whether anyone has actually been successful installing this official update. I tried a 4g, 16g and 32g all exfat, all using Ford's instructions and no luck. Same error every time.

You can try partitioning the drive this way
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj200124(v=ws.11).aspx
Have you also tried resetting the radio first also
Have you tried tethering your phone to download the update
You may have a bad usb hub in the car if you got over voltage from a usb drive I have used 3.1 drives with no issues except for a cord that had a short in it that surprisingly didn't ruin the connector but has ruined my quick chargers when I forgot it was bad cable

Same deal with 4gb drive.
Took my car into the dealer today, they used a different tool to transfer the update and said it went abnormally slow (over 3 hours to update.) When I picked up the car it was still at version 1.0(!). I'm taking it back in Tuesday morning for them to take another crack at it.
