I just wonder how long they're gonna keep jerking their customers around for? Socks that they can't be honest about stuff like this.
I just got off the phone with a Ford rep. He told me that they won't be releasing the 2.0 update for 2016 models because of some sofware/hardware incompatibility.
So now I'm stuck with the 1.0. I just bought my car and was told by two different dealerships that I would be able to run Android auto.
Again, I'm in Mexico I don't know if this applies in the US or Canada.

Finally got around to installing on my 2016 Non Nav FiST. First install took about 15 minutes, second took 5. Works like a charm! Ordered my USB hub from Walt Sweeney this morning and waiting on the tracking info! Thanks for getting this out to the people since Ford never will...

Car company executives run their business like stingy cronies and get away with it because who else has the factories or overhead to compete against them? they run monopoly's. They don't even try to be likeable. Go to any car reveal and watch some suit get up on stage and give you a soul less scripted pitch about how they are going to charge you thousand percent mockups on upgraded infotainment screens, or for an engine that doesn't suck, or for seats that don't suck, or for tires that are any good.

Car companies and even some tech companies nowadays are the perfect examples of capitalism gone bad. Its probably why Europe makes the better cars nowadays, they have competition from neighboring country's who can put up the subsidy to develop and manufacturer cars to compete with one another.

Now we get nothing but shit Asian cars, American cars not meeting potential, and European cars that are good but are over priced due to socialism and the country's revolved around making them.

In other words, earth fubar as usual.

Unleash the sync update ford! save humanity

idk man, dishonest implies willful, which makes it sound like an accusation. To me, our infotainment systems are computers, with all of the complexity of a modern smartphone. Software updates always have bugs, and delays happen constantly in software development.

The update was available here in this thead, on /r/fiestast posts on reddit, etc before the end of 2016. I'm willing to give them a pass on it.

On that note though, do we have a running list of any bugs people have experienced with Sync, CarPlay, or Android Auto? Are there any things people hesitant to install have questions about that those of us who have taken the plunge can answer?

The update applies to North American vehicles so you should be good to go.

I can't believe this. Ford really won't release the update? So glad someone was able to source this new update then.

Got the USB part, got a pair of 8GB flash drives, and did the upgrade to my 2016 non-nav yesterday. Instructions worked just fine. I now have Apple Car Play when I plug in my iPhone, but I was using my iPhone before with bluetooth or cable. So I don't get what the big benefit is. I don't stream music and that seems the only real use. I would hope I could get a nav app working some day. But I understand that's up to Apple. God knows I don't want Apples maps app as it's inaccurate and confused when I've used it in the past.

Am I missing something?

Oh, and it requires Siri which I had turned off. That's a bummer.

The Ford rep who told me this appeared to be very sure and to know what he was talking about. But then, a lot of you guys have been able to install 2.0 and 2.2 into 2016 models, and that contradicts this guy's version that the 2016 models' hardware can't handle the requirements of the updated sofware.

Who knows!

How far in the past did you use Apple maps? It's definitely not perfect but over the years they've made really dramatic improvements (can't speak for your area). It has a lot of the cool stuff google maps navigation has done forever, like letting you know when due to live traffic conditions an alternate route becomes faster. Predictive navigation like when you're out somewhere it'll guess when you might be heading home and offer directions. The way it handles text messages and gives you limited use of your phone is pretty slick too. For those who haven't experienced it, carplay by design will avoid presenting you with a bunch of text to read (aside from like a navigation direction or the name of the song playing) and will instead read things to you. If you go into messages you can select a conversation but then it'll just read the latest to you and offer to let you dictate a response. There's some multi-display stuff too, since carplay is effectively a second display to the iphone. Launch the maps app on your phone, and you'll see a second screen interface showing you a list of all the upcoming directions in your route, while the carplay screen shows just the next couple steps.

I haven't really found much in terms of good third party apps with carplay support though. I don't think there's anything actually stopping Google/Waze from releasing carplay navigation apps,

I find the carplay spotify interface a lot more tolerable to use as well. Overall, the interface is just a lot more responsive when being driven by a modern smartphone vs our several year old smartphone spec sync system.

Google won't even release Waze for Android Auto let alone CarPlay. As a heavy Waze user (1%er in WA) I switched to Android specifically because of this leaked update, and am now impatiently waiting for Waze on AA.

I will say Google Maps on AA works very well, and I have been very impressed with Android Auto, something I can't say for the rest of the OS.

Could somebody please tell me in what languages the Sync system ends up with once the updates posted here are applied?
Thanks!

I appreciate the input. My wife and I have repeatedly been led very astray by Apple maps while travelling. I went as far as to delete the app from my phone the last time. This may have me try it again. But it's clear they're trying to play catch-up with Google.

So, I stand by my "meh" impression of updating to 2.2.

He isn't wrong, but it isn't a problem.

CarPlay does not work in 2016 models unless you upgrade the USB module. This is because the 2016 USB module is not MFi/CarPlay certified(doesn't have a special Apple authorization chip).

I just did the 2.2 upgrade on my 2016 non-Nav last week, before upgrading the USB module. The update worked just fine, but CarPlay was unavailable until I swapped in the new USB module. It is really easy to swap the USB module, only takes two minutes.

It is highly unlikely that there is any difference between your Fiesta and any other North American Fiesta. Heck, mine was made in Mexico!

installed the update and the new USB hub in my 2016 fiesta ST without any issues. Installing the new USB hub took me five minutes, installing the update around 15 minutes.

I have absolutely zero need for Apple Carplay and I think it sucks honestly, but there are some small improvements in the Sync update (tiny improvements).

Either way whatever, I'm updated!

I was hoping ford would roll out the update but I got tired of waiting.

Carplay isn't really worth it but sync 3 2.2 itself is much better than 1.0 so that makes me happy

I dunno if I'd use carplay all that much but I'm glad I upgraded the part.

Got the part today. it was showing HC3Z-19A387-B on the box but on the side of the module, it was showing PN HC3T-14F014-BC. Nevertheless, I installed it and CarPlay seems to be working just fine.
