You upgraded the software and installed the updated USB module hardware?

yep everything updated to the v2.0. that update got the sync 3 to recognize my text messages but i cant get the iphone interface to load up or my maps or apps to load up. however i am using the lifeproof case for the iphone so i was thinking maybe i need to use the regular iphone plug and not the lifeproof which is a driod charger. i do have the non nav sync 3, so im not sure if that will show my maps app from my phone on not, but from seeing all the youtube videos i was thinking it would. thats all i really need is maps shown on my screen.

Like TuxBlack15 mentioned above, you need to go in your iPhone Settings > General then Carplay and follow the on screen setup

yeah that was the first thing ive done. tells me to hold the mic button on the steering wheel the only thing that happens is siri comes on. i did that with bluetooth off and nothing happens, when im in the carplay set-up. this carplay set-up is really making me feel hella dumb, i dont know where im messing up at or whats going on. most ive been able to do was that upgrade.

Did you install the USB Module in your Fiesta? Apple CarPlay required you buy the new USB plug and replace out the old one.

Sounds like you just updated the software, and didn't update the USB Hub with the new hardware.

damn, ok saw some post about it but didnt pay it any mind about the usb ports. so i guess ima order it and see what happens. its crazy, that it take this much work to make carplay work lol. is there any good site to order it from or am i better off going to ford, for the parts?

As long as that Lifeproof case transmits data, which it does if text messages work, that it uses microusb (like android phones) to charge won't matter. Easy test is to plug into your computer and see if itunes detects it while in the case. I know Mophie cases are fine for this so there's no reason it shouldn't work with a Lifeproof.

Also, suddenly now you have nav! You'll be able to use apple maps once you have carplay working. I've never had a car with nav so this is such a great experience. It's like pretty smart about stuff too, you'll see your phone letting you know where you left your car parked, automatically offering you directions to where it thinks you might want to go --like if you went somewhere it'll give you directions home.

Most of us have been ordering from tascaparts (forum vendor, a ford dealership in rhode island) but if you like your local dealership that would probably work too. There are a couple part numbers mentioned early in this thread, but I'd recommend the Lincoln part since it seems to be much easier to find. GJ7Z-19A387-B is it. the ports light up white instead of "ice blue" or whatever the ford interior lighting color is called.

Just updated my cousin-in-law's non-nav Mustang without any issues. Part 1 took ~15 minutes and Part 2 took ~8 minutes.

Couldnt get it to open on my old laptop. Tried it on my surface pro and it worked great. Got it downloaded. I really like the navigation. Too bad we can't use waze on there.

Issue I had with mine was when Android got done downloading it kept it as a .Bit so I thought that what it was so I changed it to a zip thinking that would work turned out Android didn't truly complete properly so re downloaded and had no issues.

I wish it had better radio controls when using AA. You can skip around on presets but no artist name or title when using sirius. Just a quick notification of channel name at the top of the screen when you go to another station, disperses after a couple seconds. The only useful thing for me in AA is the "ok google" feature for searching for an address or place. Everything else is kinda redundant. I have factory nav. With Sync 3 I was always able to use google play music, pandora, audible, and use the steering wheel controls. Oh and plugging the phone in all the time kinda gets old.

I can echo all that, but live traffic, and superior voice recognition makes it worth it for me most of the time. If I didn't use the traffic on Nav, I probably wouldn't even bother.
