1 hour later?! AFAIK, everyone here has done it with the car running. This sounds to me like you are doing this with the engine off.. Unless are you sitting in ur driveway idling or driving around aimlessly for an hour...

I actually did mine with the car on but engine off in my garage, keys in the cup holder, without issue. Using a really cheap USB stick as well (freebie from a conference). I left it for 30-40 min the first time and was completed when I came back to it, so I don't know how long it actually took.

My car did seem to turn itself off at some point, either when I went back into the car to get the USB stick for part 2 (opening and closing the door again) or it timed out, not really sure.

Yep! I got the Lincoln USB part from Tasca today. Popped the old one out, plugged the new one in, and CarPlay worked!
Woohoo! Awesome. I'm going to wait until the parts are available again and then get on it. Does anything work with CarPlay via bluetooth or must the phone be plugged in always?

Just get the Lincoln one from Tasca, and it'll arrive in just a few days. The ONLY difference between the two is the Lincoln one glows white, not blue around the USB ports. Other than that, they're identical. Part # GJ7Z-19A387-B

And yes, you have to have your phone plugged in for CarPlay to work.

Care to show some pics? My part doesn't get to the dealer til Wednesday, can't wait.
Sure! First, here's the new part: IMG_2280.JPG

Insert a panel tool or screwdriver like so (I used a razor blade)

Push back on it and the old one'll just pop right up:

Now, simply unplug the old one and swap them out, pop the new one back in, and you're done! Literally took me 2 minutes:

Now just plug your iPhone in and enjoy all that CarPlay has to offer!

Aw, guess I chose the wrong online dealership parts site to order from. I was assured the part was in-stock, but some time between Wednesday and now that changed and it's backordered with no ETA. I don't want to give in to the scummy sales of the part above MSRP by dealerships on eBay, but it's tempting since they theoretically actually have the part.

Is there any place that definitely has it and isn't sucking up the whole supply chain worth of parts to sell for a fatter profit? As if I needed a reason to hate all ford dealerships more.

I ordered mine from Tasca and it was here in 3 days. Part # GJ7Z-19A387-B. It's actually for a Lincoln, but it is really the exact same part. It's undistinguishable from the Ford part in every single way except the lights around the USB ports glow white instead of blue. That's the only difference. See my pictures a few posts back. The part that I was using to demonstrate the procedure is the new Lincoln part. I can attest that it works flawlessly with an iPhone.

Yeah that's actually the part I had ordered, as people were saying the "correct" one for the Fiesta (not that it matters given the location) was already backordered. Due to my impatience I'll probably end up with a few of them from various sources.

I just have to think that a dealership selling parts for profit on eBay (especially backordered parts) violates some sort of dealer agreement but Ford just doesn't care at all, their dealerships are so awful.

OK, got the Lincoln USB part and it worked perfectly.
Totally worth the $50 I spent on the new USB port.
CarPlay works great, very happy, does everything pretty much just like I'd want it to.

Oh, and for install all I did was wedged a pocket knife blade tip in the seam between the usb housing and the glove compartment and levered it out, took like 30 seconds from start to finish.

I did it as it said, waited the 5 minutes and it doesnt seem like anything has changed. Do I have to activate it or turn a setting on somewhere?

hey guys! about to do this, ordered the hub from my dealer.

Does anyone know if this reduces the lag from phone to headunit for audio streaming?

Or does anyone else have that issue? there is about a second or so delay in what the phone sends to the car and what the speakers play via usb and bt. I use plenty of bt devices and this is the only one that does it. It makes watching any sort of media through the car speakers a real drag (when stationary of course)

If this update fixes that then I'll do it asap, but if not i'll wait till my hub comes in.

Every time I ever played anything via bluetooth it has not sync'd with video properly (Accept the apple tv for some reason).
I thought that was a side effect of bluetooth honestly
