I'd like to know this as well. I have an iphone 7 and would like to get car play working.
See this post: http://www.fiestastforum.com/forum/...-links-inside)?p=201391&viewfull=1#post201391

they used the GJ7Z part, which is the lincoln (and probably some other ford models) part with white lighting, so it's not the "correct" one for the Fiesta but since it's inside the center console it hardly matters. Grab whichever one your preferred parts source can get faster :). I have the GJ7Z on order myself, cannot wait to never see the Sync interface again

I went out and bought a 8gb usb 2.0 flash drive, redownloaded the files again, 1hr later part 1 was still showing the updating message. I had used 64gb and a 128gb usb 3.0 drives previously with the same result.

I have a non-nav, v1.0 sync3 unit. Has anyone else had this issue? I did notice that there was no error message saying installation paused when I eventually removed the drive like someone else mentioned they saw.

Just did the upgrade on my Nav-equipped 2016 FiST, and it was a complete success! I was surprised to find that the iPod will still play audio through Sync, though you can't see what's playing and you can't use voice commands to change. Also learned that similar voice commands ("Play song [name]," "Play artist [name]," etc.) work on Google Play Music via Android Auto. So I am pleasantly surprised and thrilled at the upgrade! Thanks for this!

Now to do it on my wife's FiST. I'm always the guinea pig, LOL.

Also, not all flash memory is created equal. There will be differentials in speed from drive to drive. Part 1 alone is 1.7GB. That's a good sized amount to copy from a relatively slow storage medium.
That's true, I didn't think about that. I tried it again on my way home from work Friday and it finished right when I was parking, and it is all updated now and running beautifully!

Just wanted to post my experience, '16 with Nav and the update worked great! Took about 15 minutes and then turned the car off for a minute or two, turned the car back on and it booted right up into the update. I used the Lincoln USB part and it worked just fine too. Thanks for this!

I actually used my 500Gb HDD from my PlayStation 4 (I upgraded it to 2TB) formatted to exFAT to do the 2 part Sync upgrade. No issues whatsoever, and everything works flawlessly. Thanks to OffTheWall503 for all of this! Now I'm trying to learn how to do the splash screen/theme change!

1 hour later?! AFAIK, everyone here has done it with the car running. This sounds to me like you are doing this with the engine off.. Unless are you sitting in ur driveway idling or driving around aimlessly for an hour...

Doing it with the car running. Figured it was a good excuse to go for a drive. Luckily there are a lot of fun, low-traffic roads near me.

I used a 8gb drive and installed it while my car was running. First part took about twenty minutes. The second part took about ten minutes. (Non-nav)

Can anyone who already installed the new USB module in the center console offer some details on how to swap in the new unit? Mine's on order with the dealer (no ETA [:(] by the way) and I've been searching the forum but all I can find about getting into the console is the E-Brake post.
Thanx

Mine took 20 minutes and yes, I sat and idled in my parking lot.

The USB hub just pops out and has 2 connectors on it. Take a screwdriver or a trim removal tool (so you don't scratch anything) and stick it between the hub and glove box and pop out.

Here's a pic I took when I was curious about the part number.

Found a method for resetting the Sync3 head unit from a Ford rep in another thread here (skip + power button for 5 sec.) After doing that, plugged in the 8gb flash drive and tried to install again on my commute to work this morning. 25 minutes installing, and no message of any kind when I pulled the flash drive before shutting off my car in the parking lot. I think this is the point where I give up unless someone has another idea.

Without having to reread this entire thread, have you:

1. Tried a newer faster USB drive
2. Unzipped it on a Windows computer
3. Tried installing it using the USB port in your center console

Also, do you have the nav or non-nav?

Here is the unzipped file in a Dropbox folder. Maybe downloading this will help?

I have downloaded the file three times now, on two separate windows PCs (one 8.1, one 7.) I have tried using Windows File Extraction and also 7-zip to unzip the downloaded files. I am following the directions in the README file, and unzipping part one to the root of a freshly formatted (ExFAT) USB drive each time. I have used three different USB drives (128gb USB 3.0, 64GB USB 3.0, 8GB USB 2.0.) I have tried using both USB ports in my center console and gotten the same result every time: The updating message displays at the top of my SYNC3 display, but never changes or goes away with no success or failure message of any kind before or after removing the USB drive. I have tried with the USB drive inserted before starting my car, and tried with starting the car first and then inserting the USB drive. I have always waited 25 minutes or more, and have waited up to an hour (always with the car running.) I have tried doing a "factory reset" from within the SYNC3 menus, and tried using the button combination to reset the head unit as well.

I have a 2016 fist without navigation.

I have the exact setup as you, and mine is working fine, so I'd like to help as well if I can. I'll tell you what I did step by step and see if it differs from you in any way. Mine was done on a Windows 10 laptop.
1. Downloaded file to My Documents
2. Right clicked on part one, then I chose "Open"
3. It brought me to two items, a folder and a file. Can't remember what they said.
4. Choose "extract all", then "browse", then whatever drive your USB is in.
5. After it's finished, start car, insert USB, wait 20 minutes until you get the "finished updating" message
6. Turn car off, take USB, then delete everything on it
7. Repeat for step 2
8. Wait 5 minutes after turning off car, restart, wait 1 minute to fully boot up, check version in the "About" in the "settings"

I hope this helps a little, as beyond that, I'm stumped.

Try formatting to FAT32 instead of ExFAT, I would stick with the 8GB drive.
