Im using a MAC running OS X Capitan.
Suspected as much. Google "zip utility for mac". You just need a good app to unzip the files with. I don't use Mac so I can't recommend which tool would be best but iZip might be a good bet.

Do you have an Android? If so, you can unzip it using your phone.

Better yet, if everyone is having problems unzipping it, I will unzip the files on my computer, upload them to a Dropbox file, and share it here when I get home in a couple of hours. That should help.

So non-nav I'm guessing? Did you load part 1, turn car off, turn back on, load part 2, leave car off off for 5 mins?

It may take a few boots to show the new 2.2 version on your information screen.

Yes, the only thing I didn't do was actually start the engine so I may try it again. The Android Auto setting shows up for on/off so maybe you're right about it showing after a few restarts.

for some reason the macOS built-in archive utility doesn't like this zip from google drive, but if you install The Unarchiver from the app store https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-unarchiver/id425424353?mt=12 it can unzip it just fine.

Does anyone have the 1.0 non-nav reversion or a method for backing up the current version in case a reversion is desired?

Faster charging would be nice. With my phone it does charge while using AA, not fast but is pretty good. With my Chevy rectal car while plugged into AA it took hours to charge and even then would only go up a few percent. I'll still keep my quickcharge 2.0 charger in the car when I need to quick boost.
Make sure you use a good OEM quality cable that isn't damaged. Slow charge rate is usually the first sign of a damaged plug/cable. The shorter cables might be better for charging rate.

So mine is upgraded to 2.2 and so far the only thing I notice different is that its a little slower to respond to commands. It will probably get better the next couple times I start the car but I think its no change until we get the Carplay enabling USB installed. Mine shipped today so I'll report back after I get the part installed.
I was remarking (to myself) how responsive the 1.0 is and how annoying it would be... to... have... to... wait... on... responses.... and.... processing... with... every.... other.... button.... press. If it's notably slower I might consider waiting for feedback on the official release.

Welp, after running windows-based smartphones since before there was an iphone or android, I am going to assimilate into the ad-borg. Just picked up a OnePlus and ran the non-nav update, and have Android Auto up and running.

Sync 3 totally broke how I use my phone in my car, with my old head unit I could just hit the voice button and get to Cortana as a voice guided assistant, but Sync 3 does not have a way to do this. So this fixes what was a big step back for me as far as functionality goes.

Going to reserve judgment on Android until I spend a few months living with it, but for now I really appreciate having a much more integrated nav, a voice guided digital assistant back in my life, and being on a mobile platform that actually gets apps developed for it.

Now there is just the small task of moving my entire mobile life to a new platform.
Cortana on WP10 started working as designed with the car, after I reset my phone due to various unrelated issues that were a consequence of having a bad Micro SD Card. I had also been continuously updating the O/S from WP8, WP8.1 to WP10 without a reset.

.........................

Push and hold the voice recognition button on the steering wheel for 2 seconds to activate the Google voice assistant. It's actually pretty slick. Last night I held the button, said "OK Google" It chimed or something to acknowledge me. Then I said "Text Wife". It asked me what I would like to text. I said my peace and it read it back to me perfectly then asked if I'd like to send or cancel. I said send and that was it. Wife responded and it read it back to me. All while driving. It was pretty magical actually lol
Great tip! I was wondering how to bypass the car and access the phone's voice-to-texting capabilities. It's always nice to be able to initiate text messages, set appointments, reminders, etcetera via Cortana. I'll give it a shot on the v1.0 software.

I had no trouble updating a '16 w/Nav (was Sync3 v1.0) using a Mac running OS X El Capitan:

  1. No problem downloading SYNC3 NAV V1 TO V22.zip from the Google Drive link
  2. SYNC3 NAV V1 TO V22.zip was unzipped by doiuble-clicking it (opening it with the OS X default Archive Utility.app), producing a READ ME.txt file and UPGRADE FILE.zip archive
  3. I formatted a fairly new 128GB Samsung flash drive as ExFat with a GUID partition map using the OS X default Disk Utility.app
  4. UPGRADE FILE.zip was copied to the flash drive and unzipped by double-clicking it (again, opening it with the OS X default Archive Utility.app)
  5. I deleted UPGRADE FILE.zip from the flash drive leaving only the unzipped contents: autoinstall.lst file and SyncMyRide folder including four zipped .tar files
  6. I followed the instructions in READ ME.txt:
    1. Started the car
    2. Plugged in the USB drive
    3. Got the Upgrading System indication
    4. (went for a drive)
    5. Got the Upgrade Successful message after about 15 minutes
    6. Shut off the car
    7. Started the car again after 5 minutes (more like 20)
  7. Good to go
