Yep, the prongs on the cable need to be able to "snap" or "click" into the phone, otherwise a poor connection could occur and interfere in functionality.

I just tried to do the install and got this message...
Install Failed
Installation has run out of space or does not work with this version.

I have a 2016 Fiesta ST with Navigation and I downloaded the software for the w/Navigation. I have Sync version 1.0.

Thanks for the help.

Is your drive formatted correctly and done with a Windows computer?

Also you can do an error check on the flash drive in Windows by right clicking, go to properties then tools and do an error-checking. Occasionally there are file errors on the device and that can create issues as well and can keep the drive from not getting indexed correctly by the car when you plug it in.

Only thing I can suggest would be to re-download the file and confirm you are following the "read-me" instructions correctly.

What size is your flash drive? It's suggested to use an 8GB or smaller drive.

I suspect Ford is waiting until better availability of the USB module for CarPlay. Wouldn't make much sense to announce something when a large number of people are going to need to go to the dealership to have it installed anyway.

There is apparently an "ST" boot logo, do our cars show that? Found mention of it here http://www.focusrs.org/forum/30-foc...apple-carplay-android-auto-35.html#post864529

That's only a feature of the FocusST. The FocusRS also does the same thing, but it has nothing to do with the software but the APIM from the vehicle. You could enable the ST splash screen if you have a ForScan device.

Dammit. I bought a pair of 16gb this morning and loaded them up. Oh well. I'll report back in a few hours.

I used the 32gb I keep in the car with my mp3s (after reformatting it, of course)

I had the same issue as you. Had it plugged in for an hour but it was just stuck at the "System is Updating" status. Tried two different USB sticks.

Please keep us updated on whether or not you're able to get it to work, at this point I'm inclined to just wait for the official release...
I tried again this morning eliminating as many potential problems as possible. Redownloaded the original zip file to a different computer, unzipped the package, and then unzipped the first portion of the install onto a second freshly formatted flash drive. I went down to my car, used the menu option to reset to factory defaults, waited for it to finish and then turned the car off for 5 minutes. Started the car back up, put my flash drive into the 2nd USB port (nothing in first slot) and I got the brief indexing, indexing complete message and then the updating software message. Went for a fun drive (I love this car) and one hour later still "Updating Software". Pulled the flash drive and parked the car and haven't done anything with it since then.

I saw in another post someone suggested USB drives of less than 8GB and both of mine are significantly larger than that. I wonder if partitioning the USB drive with the primary partition being 4GB or something would help.

I used an older 4gb drive (USB 2.0) and a newer 32gb drive (USB 3.0). No luck with either one. May try to redownload again. FYI I'm in Canada, but it shouldn't matter as I've seen other Canadian cars updated successfully

Is yours a navigation or non-navigation unit?
