I just saw your post and what a small world that it was your car that the original poster bought. I will be turning 50 in a few months . Do you think someone my age should buy the fiesta? I red the other post about you mentioning that you had pain from driving it on your arm. I wish I would have seen that post before you traded it in because I have a few friends out in Southern California that have shops to customize your car. I live out here in Vegas and I could have told them about your situation and they would have been able to change the ergonomics of the shift on your car for a very affordable price. My friend said he has helped resolve the issue you have with your tendonitis for many of his clients. It is a very common complaint people have with newer cars and especially the Fiestas because the way the manual shifter is designed. One client he told me about had the exact same injury as you and was in a ton of pain as well after buying his Fiesta last year and after taking it in my friend's shop they realigned the shifter to the normal position that older cars have and it helped resolve his tendonitis immediately after he picked up the car.

Darn. Well I wish I had known about him. Too late.

My issues were:

1. After the first few days my right arm on the tendon that runs from the back of the forearm from the wrist to the elbow was in intense pain. It came on fast. No indication of this in the test drive. After only a few days of driving the pain became unbearable. The tendon in my right arm was damaged when I was young from playing competitive tennis. Once the graphite racket era came, and I started using those rackets, they destroyed my arm. Now that tendon is sensitive to vibration. Any kind of high frequency metallic shock vibration, like the Fiesta Shifter has, will trigger it fast. Once it kicks in, it takes weeks to calm down. Funny thing though, I have only driven manual transmission cars my whole life so I never expected any car's shifter to cause pain.
The Fiesta does. It is the right frequency.
However, with the extended shifter and boomba knob wrapped in foam the pain in the arm started to lessen and maybe it might have gone away. But then...

2. Extreme pain and swelling in the left knee. For some reason the rest position of the left leg in the Fiesta is wrong. It causes the leg to twist the knee and put continual stress on it. After a couple of weeks I could barely walk. I tried adjusting the seat every which way with no relief. The ergonomics are not good here. Just when I thought I might be over the arm, the knee occurred. At this point i realized I made a mistake in buying this car.

3. The Recaro seats. I am a small slim guy so I could fit in the seats ok. But my friend who is bigger than me, really just normal size, was being killed by the passenger seat. The wings would dig into the backs of his shoulders and also the seat hurt his middle back. Finally he said he would never drive with me in that car again. He hated it and said it was the worst ergonomic design he has ever experienced. And he is a car guy, lots of cars in his life.

So for the three above reasons I could not live with the Fiesta ST. It was fun but the price to drive it was too high.

If you are 50, hell even 40, then I would forget it. It is a painful car, very stiff suspension. It is for weekend warrior work, not commuting.
If you will use it on the weekend as a second car then you might be good. But not as your main car.
I learned my lesson.
My new Mini is total luxury compared to the Fist. It is basically like driving in a BMW, but the Mini is fast, nimble and real torquey, much more than the Fist.
The Mini S stock produces 207 Pound/Feet at 1250 RPMs!
There is pull through the whole band from idle all the way to red line.
It is not peaky, it is torquey.
It is a totally different driving experience.
The Fist is raw and rough and that is a lot of fun. I did enjoy the car a lot, but it is for the young, or those rare older men who are still indestructible.

Glad to see my car made it to a good home!
I chose this car carefully and really wanted it, it was not a whim. But within a few days of driving it the pain in my arm and left knee became so bad that I knew I had no choice but to sell it.
Let's say is a was a very sad and depressing experience for me.
This was a fully loaded car and in absolute perfect condition.
I made sure it stayed spotless inside and out.
By the way, I put a coat of Meguiars synthetic wax on it so it has a nice protection coat as I am sure you noticed.
$18, 900 was a total steal and I am glad you got it for this low price.

I actually traded it to Mini for a 2016 Cooper S, fully loaded, automatic, with only 4k miles on it.
They were having an end of month sale and I got this Cooper S for $7000 less than the new price and they gave me $18000 in trade for the Fiesta.
So in the end I still got a great car at a great price that I can drive without pain.
Somehow I got out of this situation with a whole skin!
We both won in the end.
Please enjoy the Fiesta the way I could not.
I definitely recommend the Montune 215.
This was my next mod if I had not sold the car.
It adds the power and the sound you want.
Just enough power to finish the car.
Oh, and there was a recall on a cooling sensor and I got that replaced for you under warranty so you are good.

P.S.
I bought a Boomba Heavy shift Knob for the Fiesta hoping it would alleviate my pain from the shifter but it did not.
I still have that brand knew knob which is really great because it makes shifting faster and easier.
It is really beautiful and feels great in the hand.

Thanks for the offer on the gearshift knob. I'm going to think about it.
Just had the car for a few days now and I can fully understand why you had arm issues with the car.
So far I've come across 3 mistakes Ford has made with the fiST.
First, the gearshift lever is too far forward and low for my liking.
A very unnatural position, but I'm getting used to it the more I drive it.
Probably the worst position of any car I've driven.
What does Ford think we all have gorilla arms?
The second issue is that the center armrest is kinda too high and useless and sometimes gets in the way during spirited shifting.
The third issue is that the accelerator pedal is too low, and to the right for easy heel-toe shifting, at least it is for me.
Every time I try to heel toe I jam on the brakes and barely able to push down the gas pedal. You really need to be an ankle contortionist to be able to do it well.
From my research I'm not the only one who feels this way, and I've come across a number of spacers.
Since I don't know how big a spacer would be optimal for me, I am going to make a few out of wood and determine what size suites me best. I'm thinking 3/4 to a full inch should do it.
Would be great to be able to slide the gas pedal a little to the left as well.
I wear a size 9.5 shoe.
Overall the fiST is a great drivers car and so much fun to drive.

I always had to fold up the armrest or my shifting arm elbow would hit it every time.

As to the shifter being too low and far forward, I highly recommend the Dead Hook Motorsports Fiesta ST Shifter Extension.
It made a huge difference. I got the straight one and it raised the shifter up so it was in a rally car position just right of the steering wheel and made it so much easier to shift and reach.
A solid product. I ordered it from their site and had it in less than a week.
With the Boomba knob attached to it it was real fast and easy to shift and looked like Ken Block's shifter in his Super Fist! Lol.

Actually I got real lucky. I lost no money on the deal. I simply paid a a few thousand more and got a very under priced mini.
I had put 15k down on the Fist, so after getting 18k for it, a $1,800 refund on my 7 year warranty, paying off the loan balance and buying the mini, I still paid less in the end then I would have if I had never bought the Fiesta and had just bought a brand new mini with the same options I got on the one I bought.

You could have had an extra 3k taken off the price since you had all the leverage like the OP had when he bought your ST. He was easily able to have them drop the price of the car by a couple k where in your case you were trading in a car that hurt you. Salesman saw blood in the water and took advantage of you. Keep telling yourself you saved money or broke even in the end but reality is you paid full price for a USED mini.

I apologize if my post came off instensestive and I had no intention of coming off as a troll. I am only pointing out that buying a used mini for as much as you did , and tacking on the 7k you lost sounds like a bad deal to me.

I am glad you had a different perspective on the unfortunate situation you were in. I am just stating my opinion and how I would be very upset losing 7k after all this. Not to mention the head ache and wasted time on top of that.

I also read your other posts about how much you paid to begin with on the Ford St and as others mentioned you paid to much to begin with on the ST. When you initially bought the STt you had more leverage since you did not have another car you were stuck with and I think you could have fought a little harder to drop the MSRP. just like maverick was able to have the dealership drop their MSRP by a few grand.

Let this be a lesson for people looking to buy a car. The MSRP can always be negotiated to be dropped a couple grand when buyin a car. Buying a car is similar to poker One needs to play the hand the right way or the dealership will take the customer by at least a couple K more on their purchase.

Your mini does look very nice though and I a fan of those cars as well but I still think paying 35k plus the loss on your car is a little too much for a used mini.

No offense to Nordattack, but I'm not going to go the route of getting another car, especially not a Mini. Honestly not even sure why you are hyping it up on a Fiesta ST forum. Hell it's considered a girls car, even my girlfriend said so lol. And sorry you lost all that money, FordIsLife1966 is right. I know I've been there before and you kind of get in denial about it. But it's ok, eventually you'll get over it and come to terms.

Anyway I hope I can figure something out. Again I bought this car after reading so much good stuff about it, I hyped it up to all my friends who are all muscle car guys and now it's killing me and I'm taking shit for it! It sucks!!

If you are in the Southern California region send me a private message and I can give you my friends contact info and tell them I sent you. He will give you a great deal. Also I do agree that Nord attack should not be talking about his mini on a ford website. After all we need to support our economy and American made cars.


I am actually still upset that he called me a troll when I was telling him my opinion. I also believe others on this forum would agree that he did get jobbed on the ST for buying it at such a price and did not try to negotiate it to a lower MSRP. I thought it was common sense for people to negotiate any new car to a lower MSRP and if the dealership doesn't budge take your business some where else as there are tons of dealerships and the big has all the leverage. However the buyer loses that leverage when they trade a brand new car I for a used one because any dealership knows they must be very unhappy with their purchase and regret it so at that point the dealer has the power.

The fiesta ST is a beautiful car and I do agree the mini is a bit feminin. Most of my female friends drive minis. If Nordattack wants to buy a mini and brag about it there are many mini boards out there to do that but this is a ford message board not a mini message board.

I actually went to some dealerships today and was able to find a brand new fully loaded fiesta ST for 20k , it was listed at 25k but I have saved up 17k in cash and once I showed them the money they knew I was serious and agreed to sell me the Ford Fiest ST for 20k. Brand new with under 100 miles on it. I plan on visiting a couple other dealerships tomorrow and see if I can find an even better deal now that I have a dealership willing to sell me a car for 20k. If I cannot get a better deal I am buying the car tomorrow

Before I chose the fiST I test drove many cars including.....the Fiat Abarth, foST, Cayman GTS, Corvette Stingray, VW Golf R and GTI, and the John Cooper Works Mini.
The Mini is a great car, handles like a go-kart and has more power(228hp) than the fiST.
Two things turned me off the Mini, one is their reputation of being unreliable, and secondly the price.
I could almost buy 2 fiST's for the price of one JCW Mini.
The interior if the Mini is light years ahead of the fiST, which aside from the lovely Recaro's, is based on a cheap econobox, the Fiesta and is full of cheap, hard plastics.
Ford obviously put all the money into the drivetrain, suspension tuning etc which is just fine with me.
For the best interiors you need to go to the Germans....Audi, Porsche and VW make the best interiors in my opinion.
So guys, lets just get along and enjoy our amazing cars and stop attacking each other.

Wow, Nordattack, it's totally not cool promoting street racing. This is what gives us all a bad name. I hope you aren't doing that kind of stuff with your Mini. I've known plenty of guys who think they are race car drivers because they watch professional drivers on YouTube. Then they try to do that stuff on the street and wind up wrapping their car around a tree. One guy I know was using a selfie stick (!) while driving and drove his car into a damn ditch. Don't be that guy...

That's why with your mindset, when we're both 65, I'll be mountain biking, hang gliding, roller blading, playing competitive tennis etc, and you'll be getting around with your walker. LOL
It's not very wise living your life based on what others think, quite unhealthy actually, but to each his own.
Definitely shows your weak character.
You see I'd much rather be a leader than a follower.
And no, I definitely do not condone street racing at all, best to save that for the race track.
