I've had the X37 on my car for two months and 1,000 miles. Those 1,000 miles are mostly driven at extra legal speeds, and I don't baby my car once it's warm.
The car seems to be getting quicker, and I'm pretty sure that can't be right. I drove it yesterday and was especially aggressive doing a couple of WOT pulls to 120. The last pull had me slipping the tires through second, some slip in to 3rd, and then quickly the car was at 120 and eager to pull well past that. One of these days I'm going to take it to 140 just to see how quickly it will get there, but not until the temps are lower. I live in a rural area south of Houston and there are some great isolated long stretches of flat road that I can see down for miles. I don't drive "fast" if others are on the road.
Most of the time I get used to the power pretty fast after I add a power mod, but with how I have my FiST set up currently it's one of the 1st times with all the cars that I've owned over the years where I feel that the power is perfect for the car. I'm returning a VERY respectable 23 mpg E30 average, and instead of researching how to make more power my focus is on reducing weight, increasing airflow to the engine, and upgrading supporting components such as brakes, oil cooler, and who knows where it will end?
My current tires are 215/40/17 W rated on 17x7.5 wheels. I have a tire tread gauge from my discount tire days in college that reads 8/32's of tread taken from the center off the fronts. I rotated the rears a few weeks ago and they have 6/32 of tread left. That's a nice amount of remaining tread to be spinning as easily as they spin on power in the lower gears, and I'm concerned that the 15x8 6 UL's on 205/50's might spin even easier once I swap out my hubs to a 4-100 bolt pattern.
I am changing out my oil at 7k and will send it to Blacksone for an analysis and to see how the engine is holding up to 26.78 lbs peak boost at 84F outside ambient and 70% humidity while running E30. I love the X37 and how quickly the speed builds and the cool noises that the turbo makes. This FiST is now officially my favorite car/toy that I have ever owned.
