Well all of that was fun......

So on revesion 3 of my tune, and this thing is awesome! It's a great fit for the car. Power across the rpm band, and stronger across the board.

My review of Tune + so far is he has excellent customer service.

This turbo is perfect for people who want more out of their car for a great price!

Official Pumaspeed X-37 Hybrid Turbo Thread

Good debate / discussion, but just not the correct thread to continue this discussion in...

If you wish to continue posting discussions regarding upgraded turbo FiST track times and who has the fastest FiST then there is a thread which was created by DHM awhile back (below) to post track times and discuss results...

Official FiST Drag Race Times and Discussion -- Post Here--

And as mentioned in previous reminders, discussions and videos regarding any form of illegal street racing posted will be immediately removed...

Please lets keep this thread topic primarily focused on the Pumaspeed x-37 Hybrid Turbo upgrade....

And for those folks who have contacted me to please clean up this thread once again give me a few to sort through this thread and take all these race time discussion posts and transfer them over to the track post mentioned (linked above)

thanks..much appreciated...

What supporting mods do you have so far other than the x37? How much have you invested into this totally so far?

I went Cobb Stage 3 package and then upgraded my front intercooler to a DHM.
So it's pretty easy to save money on my setup and get very similar results.

Alright, it's been said over and over bit this is the perfect turbo. A little background on me, I came from the subi community. I had an 04 sti. First I had all the bolt ons. After a while I was an idiot and went the big turbo route and lost the fun low end solid power. Yes I had a good punch from 4200 rpms bit I lost the fun drivability in the car. Fast forward to now, I got the fist and set my line in the sand at just stage 3 bolt ons and tune. After a while I found myself shopping for yet another "big" turbo. After reading some reviews and doing research, I decided on the x37. It was the only choice for.me. price line is perfect, retains the stock spool and adds good power throughout the entire powerband. Having installed ot and gone through adam Tune+, I'm completely satisfied with his service and product. I hit 29 pounds of boost the other night and just wow. Jaw on the floor. Stock housing turbo just screams. For all of those on the fence, make the purchase. You will not regret it. If you have little to no mechanical skills, have a friend help you install.
Interesting, I went 18g on my wrx and you're right, lost the fun factor. Turned into a speed machine but that was it. I'm probably picking up a FiST soon and have changed my thought process on modding my car; Tuning the car but keeping it close to stock as possible = no change in suspension, full bolt ons and protune. BUT, 250-280whp sounds just right for this car IF it keeps the same driveability as stock.

What's the intake whistle/howl about? Any video/audio as an example? Is it just certain intakes paired with the X37, or is it just a fact of life with the X37 in general?

Asking for a friend ;)

Honestly if you did an X37 and got an intercooler and hard pipes with a high flow panel filter you would be right around 250whp. And pass smog in cali lol!

Driveability is definitely still there with the x37. I'm still tuning with 93 e10 and am at 250whp at 5600rpms and 290 lb/tq at 3200rpms according to vdyno. I've done plenty of datalogs with the stock turbo and highest HP i saw with that was 197 at 5500 rpms and 295 lb/tq at 2750rpms. In my opinion, it feels great for an upgraded stock turbo.

It seems its a fact of life. It isn't horrible, or deafening. I kind of enjoy it. If you're just pussyfooting it around, it whistles, but quickly goes away with a little more throttle. The stereo completely eliminates it and that's at a volume level that isn't obnoxious. What I am curious about, is if the whistle is audible from outside the car over the exhaust. =D

The FiST is my 1st turbo, and prior to the mx5 that I had before the FiST I had always owned high revving Vtec (ivtec) Honda's. The x37 builds power across the entire rev range when compared against the stock turbo, but the 5k rpm "turbo kicked in, yo" PUNCH most definitely reminds me of the fun higher rev nature of my old high revving Hondas. Although I don't rev it past 7k (it's not needed) the added top end power that the x37 offers once you hit 5k sure is a lot of fun and always puts a grin on my face.

When your building partial boost and holding throttle. Like 1-2 lbs.... you get what sounds like someone blowing over a beer bottle. So far it is a characteristic of the swap as I never heard it before. It is definitely noticeable.

I second the drive ability! As long as you grip that steeringwheel when you punch it. It might try to change lanes.... but that may just be me needing an alignment. I wouldn't think twice to hand the keys to someone else as there isn't a list of do's and don'ts with the swap.

I just finished up the 93 tune with Adam the other day and I'm pretty damn happy with the results. It's a totally different animal now. Holds 25 psi from about 3300 to redline and pulls like a train. If only they came from the factory like that haha.

I bet that whistle is from the stainless inlet pipe when the Dv is recirculating back into the intake.

I'm still using the stock inlet elbow and it whistles. It will be interesting to see if the sounds changes with the big bore elbow.

I am loving this turbo. I just finished catching up on the rest of the thread. Everything about it is awesome and the more stuff I read on it the more sold I am so keep it coming guys haha. I'd like to do 260+ whp on reg 93 and 280+ on e30....this is with this turbo, a cpe intake and full 3 inch catless exhaust...anyone think these numbers are reasonably realistic with these mods? I'm like mcdonalds...I'm lovin it haha. The more you guys keep telling about this turbo the more sold i get. I have heard stories and saw vidoes of this setup and i tell you what these cars with 260-280 whp put in serious work and that is no joke. Its awesome being able to do that with a stock like drivability and a similar power band to stock but more up top..that to me is the perfect combo for this car.

I was able to do some drive-by vids. I got a good recording of the X-37 whistle from outside of the car. My 84 year old grandmother-in-law was able to hear it from the front porch of the house. :)

At the very end you can really hear the whistle! Funny how the text said you were pulling into your driveway and it sure looks like your driveway is your yard. Haha I kinda miss living in the country for things like that.
