I haven't seen this approach much out there, so I thought I'd share.
Most of us are getting intakes for the sound more than anything else. While there are a handful that help power, most just sound cool and pull engine bay air. In that spirit I decided to go as economical as I could. A good amount of searching landed me on this thread on another forum by user "joker96" who basically found a company in the UK that made a MAF adapter for our cars. Slap a filter on and you've functionally got the same intake you can get elsewhere for hundreds of dollars, but perhaps without the shroud which appears to be of dubious helpfulness on some iterations.
The adapter for me was about $55 shipped to the US, a little pricey but I was willing to pay for a part specifically made to fit our cars. After that put just about any 70mm (2.75") filter on the end and you're in business. I went with a AEM 21-202DK, I wouldn't recommend exceeding its dimensions much as it is already about the right size.

The only permanent mod you must make is to trim this piece of rubber off the hose as you can see it interferes with the maf housing. It doesn't effect function, it is only designed to help you line up the intake tube to the stock air box, but it is obvious how they go together anyway and it is not likely anyone would notice the change.
Like it was never even there...
You can get the sound at much lower price this route. In addition you can swap back and forth between the stock intake in less than 5 minutes for those of you with warranty or inspection concerns. Feel free to share your thoughts or let me know if you have questions.
