First off I would like to say that I love my 2015 Fiesta St, It does everything I need it too and I can carry my 3 kids with me in the back seat. But unfortunately I need something bigger. I was looking at the Focus ST or the WRX and both seem really good. I got to test drive both cars already and can't really make up my mind. I'm thinking I should just get the new 2016 Toyota Tacoma and be happy with the space but I love driving a fun car! Don't know what to do yet..........

Oh trust me I would love to get the Focus RS but at that price range of $40k and up? I'd rather just get a truck. The Subaru WRX is maybe a bit more but it is AWD and can't beat that.

In Canada the WRX starts at the same price and they both top out at same price .... odd....I think for me between the 2 my vote is WRX as AWD.

Yeah that is what I'm leaning more towards, The AWD WRX. I love ford hot hatches but Subaru does have a better resale value, at least where I live anyway.

The resale value on the WRX/STI is killer here in Calgary Alberta Canada, I think the highest resale value out of any used car on the market.

For resale value, get a WRX or an EVO. The new WRX are a huge step down on interior quality. Yes, the Evo's interior is way out of date, but that's the beauty of it. The Evo's interior doesn't try to be more than it is, it does what it's supposed to be well.

I get super frustrated when it comes to 40k+ trucks these days so I won't even.

There is going to be more want than product for the RS I think and either you commit on it now and purchase sight unseen or go home.

Third option! Get a toy car while you make up your mind.

E38, some refreshing to look stock but mean, turbo on a straight six.. 4 door and more power for half the price.

Thanks for the input. Some things to think about if I go that route. It looks as though I might just go for the 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport 4X4. At $30k-$40k range thats truck price to me.

I would say for fun and price and maybe a little more space, the Focus ST. Is AWD really necessary in Hawaii? (honest question, I don't know what the terrain is like on the island)

But it sounds like you are leaning towards the Tacoma for the space. I nearly got a Tacoma myself, but it would make for a boring commute. But now I have nowhere to put my bike. :/

I find AWD boring in a moderate performance car as just to easy and in HI not needed in the least.

If you need to haul a lot of stuff around can't beat a pickup but the markup for the manf and dealer is pretty nuts so really work on the deal. Might want a canopy on the truck with all the rain there. Unless you go off roading you can get by fine with a 2wd truck just fine.

Subies are great in many ways but if you ever want serious power it takes VERY SERIOUS money and still building a grenade.

Evo not made in a hatch or wagon, 3 kids, you kind of need one.

Instead of spending $30-40k consider keeping the FiST or get something else like a modded Miata, or something faster, used, and buying a nice used Tacoma or whatever else fits your needs.

Or just do your own thing no matter what we say:)

Not sure what you mean by the new WRX's interior is a step down ---its more like 50 steps forward compared to the last WRX.

You make some valid points. I know that I probably need Tacoma but I "WANT" a fast hatch like the Focus ST/RS. honestly it's going to come down to the price, If I can get a Tacoma for around $35k then I'll do it but if Honolulu Ford calls me back and offers a good price for the Focus ST I'm looking at that's around $26k , then I'll get the ST.

Yeah I seen that Fusion sport, Looks pretty cool for a family sedan but I drive those cars all day for a living and I don't like fusions. I'm a valet at a super expensive resort so I test dove so many cars over and over and can tell you, Guys who drive BMW's/Benz/Electric cars are the worst human beings ever! They think they are elitist and better than everybody and never "TIP"!!!!!!! I wouldn't mind that if it was the only problem but what's even worst is they seem to be so demanding and super rude and condescending!

I'm in this dilemma right now as well. I need a bigger car with my 2nd child on the way. I don't like the idea of putting the rear facing on the passenger side of the car and with that said I got a 2 year old in a front facing Recaro(which takes up a lot of space). I'm leaning towards the WRX for the power, awd, and space. The biggest let down to me when it comes to the focus st is the interior volume is garbage. It is only about 4 cubic feet bigger than the FIST. The WRX is 10 cubic feet bigger than our cars. That passenger volume is the determining factor for me, plus I can fit a full size stroller in the trunk, which I had trouble fitting a damn umbrella stroller in the back of the FIST.
