Recommendation for Making my FiST Stage III

I'm gonna venture and say that the OP is in the same boat as me - researched, bought the car, knew before buying it what power level he wanted, probably had cars with way more power before but simply decided that for what it is a "stage 3" Fiesta ST was going to be enough. So the big turbo arguments are kinda lame when he wasn't asking about that from the start. He doesn't come across as knowing more than everyone else.....I didn't get that at all.

I don't think it's a good idea to shut others down because they don't agree, especially when they're new to the forum. In my first weeks here I proposed on the down pipe thread that maybe we should keep a cat in our aftermarket down pipes...and the response was pretty childish and even rude...how about some Fiesta love, let's keep the doors open eh?
Yeah and the messed up part is I wasn't even disagreeing with people. They came at me when I wasn't even saying anything. Damn! This is some childish bullshit. But oh well I got some good advice and I'll keep everyone posted on what I decided to do.

No, the DHM is a completely bolt on affair. You have to unbolt the stock crash bar and bolt their replacement on. I kind of blew up at you for that rude comment directed at Wimp Lo. He is a super smart dude and has a lot of knowledge to impart upon those willing to listen.

Yeah I understand. All I did was answer his question. This is the first boosted car I've owned and all I want to do is figure out what I want to do lol.

No hard feelings sir. He made a good point when he said "do you want to go stage 3, or make power?". There are a lot of smart guys on this forum, but like any car forum... you have a bunch of dudes, testosterone levels are through the roof, and tempers flare. Just the way it is.

I still suggest the DHM race for your needs. You'd probably want to get a custom tune, and not run the Cobb OTS map, also.

I understand that and appreciate it and I will consider it but I wasn't even any of the people arguing with you and you came at me with a rude comment. I was just sitting back reading and researching what everyone has to say.
It's kind of simple, good parts+good tune=good result, grab bag+off the shelf tune=?

Uncertainty sucks and it isn't that much cheaper.

You should really try to get a clue.

I don't care if you don't want a big turbo or if you just want to get a little more power. I'm not going to tell you to buy crap parts like an Ingen "cold air" intake or a generic intercooler.

If you want to be cheap, get an Accessport and a panel filter and be happy, the next steps are small and expensive or big and more expensive. I'm just telling you how to maximize your investment and avoid dead ends.
Getting testy aye? I'm not telling him to buy crap parts. I know the injen intake isn't the best, I told him the truth about it did I not? I said it ends up pulling in hotter air and it heat soaks bad. IDK where people are getting that the J-Line is crap...it may not work on the biggest of turbos (something I learned on this thread) but it is more than enough for stock and running stage 3. There are plenty of people running it on the stock turbo with no issues.... I have proof the J-line works for the stage 3 tune and the depo racing catted dp works too. I drive it daily. Not everyone needs to spend their entire paycheck and savings going all out. Some of us do it on a budget and get the results we're looking for.

I had already planned on going to Adam for a custom tune.

Pretty much. I would suggest the panel filter, DHM intercooler, and a tune from Tune+

A $200 downpipe wouldn't hurt either, but is debated on whether it's needed or not
Best bang for the buck, if I would've done it all over again I would've went this route.
Thank you. This'll definitely be the route I'll go. Though I don't currently plan on going past stage III, I'd rather buy the race intercooler and have a good foundation to build on if I change my mind. That Cyborg looks veeeeery tempting, I must admit.

One more thing to add: just because something can be done doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Well me and my crap car with the crap parts are going to bow out. The most important thing is to have fun with your build and do you. Sorry if I offended anybody with my proven suggestions on doing "Stage III" on the cheap. Peace.

I'll add a different point of view, but I doubt you'll listen since you apparently know more than everyone here... which makes me wonder why you even asked?

Buy a DHM race intercooler and crash bar. I guarantee you, one of three things will happen:
1. you'll love it, and you'll keep the car forever
2. you'll love it, and decide at some point you want to go big turbo. Great! you can keep the IC you already have. Can't say that for any other IC...
3. you'll love it, but decide you want to sell the car. at this point, you can take the DHM IC off, sell it (it should hold value better than any other IC since, you know, it's the best one), then put the stock one back on the car and sell it.

Then get a stage 3 tune. Optional: buy a downpipe from 2j racing for $200. BAM! $1100 stage 3! And if you decide to go big turbo, you don't have to deal with selling shit and wasting more money. GG have fun.
Is it the factory fit deadhook FMIC you're talking about?

Keep an eye out for my build thread. Installing my cyborg with aftermarket manifold + external wastegate in the next few months.. Still waiting on some parts to come in (2J intercooler) >.<

Will definitely keep an eye on it! [driving]

*waving hand* Wow, like twolf said, the testosterone is thick in here! It's like walking in on the forum version of a bar fight. [chair]

Ok just so I get this straight here is what Limp Wo and Twolf are recommending I purchase. I'm only summarizing their suggestions because they are the two "anti-stage 3" guys.

*Wastegate Actuator
*DHM Race FMIC
*Custom Tune
*RMM
*MBRP Charge Pipe
*AP (so I can do a custom tune)
*DP (optional)

I'm adding a BOV because I need that sound!

Is this correct?

FYI, DHM will add a BOV flange and sell you a TiAL Q BOV to go with it for basically what you'd spend just buying the valve....

I wouldn't bother with a charge pipe on the stock turbo. I'll be selling my Turbosmart BOV in about a month (or whenever my DHM IC comes in) if you want to go that route.

Get a panel filter, I have a K&N, no problems so far, other brands should be pretty much the same.

The wastegate actuator and RMM might be needed, might not but you can wait to find out. The actuator is a more difficult install than most bolt-ons because of the turbo heat shield. The RMM is something most people could do in their driveway on jack stands.

It sounds like Adamtuned is a good deal but you should research it yourself.

I really like what I have read about the DHM race intercooler, that is why I ordered it with my turbo kit. If you know you don't want to go big turbo and you are OK with a modest gain, the DHM factory fit would be worth a look. All of the factory fit style intercoolers are pretty similar, you need to chose on the quality of the core mostly.

The cool thing with the DHM race intercooler is that you can sand off the blockage in your grill to get more cooling air for the intercooler and radiator. If you want to do that, the time to do it is during the IC install. If you don't want to open the grill, the factory fit might be a better choice.

One more thing, if you get a custom tune, think about retaining the first and second gear torque limits, I broke a motor mount on a stage one tune and panel filter and I think the low rpm torque, sticky tires and my lack of restraint caused the failure.

My "on the cheap" Stage 3.

A MAP intercooler should be in my hands by this weekend. That coupled with a panel filter, stock air box mods, Mishimoto intake hose and catch can and finally an AccessPort. I am already tuned by tune+ and will be going back to him for a tune update when it's all put together.

The 2j FMIC is the largest intercooler that can be used with the stock crashbar. It's also $400. If they ever start shipping, I'd recommend that, if you don't want to go DHM.
