i'm still sort of on the debate on that actually. LOL

on my business partners MK5 gti, we used a threaded rivnut type thing piece that you would pop in, then use a nice fastner to mount the flares but the labor to do it right would downright kill most people lol. I'm open to suggestions. most of my cars that used screw on style flares i've always just used nice hardware from a specialty nut and bolt shop.

trying to think of a happy median here thats not too time consuming .
Have you already made a decision on the mounting style?

Either way I would have to agree with trsandrew, a flange to allow for a good quality 3m panel adhesive, and those who want mechanical fasteners can source out their own style etc. Assuming the fastener points would still be recessed like in the pics. (I am one of those who would source his own mechanical fastener)

And obviously i am also interested, are you still on track for March?

mounting style would be with the recessed areas with a bolt/fastner/rivnut etc. panel bond does work, but how this flare setup is designed, without actually molding over those areas, using panel bond alone would look pretty funny. I'm waiting to hear back from the manufacturer (they are lagging argh!) lol. I will post an update as soon as I get one. Flares MSRP will be $600, but of course for the first batch of flares, I will be doing a intro / group price for everyone interested.

for the hardware, i'm thinking just having it shipped without it and have everyone decide what they want to use instead. makes it easier since everyone has their own preferences.

thoughts?

I agree. Flares and body 'work' is a universal thing.

I'm down for seeing actual fitment results though. $600, plus cutting up a car, plus the cost of a real body guy to get it done right for only 225's doesn't sound found.

If these come at the right time, I anticipate running 245s with these flares.

I recommend searching for tires in 245 to see if you can find what will fit before buying the flares as not many made that are not race tires or too tall.

Again remember to look at real specs, 245/.../15/16/17 is not going to get you the correct info as tires are not measured that way.

I have already mounted 225/45/15 Hoosiers which are more like 240-245 wide on 9" wide wheels and made them fit up front with -2.5 camber, fender rolling and pulling.

In the rear with the fenders rolled and pulled as far as I could get them without resorting to body work but the 225/45/15 Toyo RA1 race tires and BFG street tires fit, barely.

Another important aspect to consider is the offset of the wheels if going to far will effect handling and add considerable wear and tear on the suspension and chassis. It also reduce the effective spring rate so stiffer springs might be needed.

There is a lot more to adding flares and having a wider wheel and tire that simply bolting parts on unless you just want it for the looks and don't care about what it actually does to the car.

---------------

That said, in the future I might run 15x11 wheels with 275 race tires but would also rebuild the entire front suspension which likely means a tubular subframe, longer control arms and raised inner pick up points to make it work right, flares would be required of course.

yup.

the mold process has taken forever. have not been happy at all about it, but on the upside the first samples out of the mold are being shipped to me this coming week. I will find a local FiST to test fit with and i am told the first production batch should be here in about two weeks or so after that....

apologies for the delay.

I'm used to these flare threads going nowhere. When I has my mr2 Spyder I'd watch about two or so of these posts start up each year and get everyone excited and then just fade away. With 9k views and the OP already having a set I have had high hopes for this!

hey guys, sorry for long delay. i was out of the country for about a month. the sample pieces came in which i test fitted real fast and all looked good.

production pieces are in los angeles and will be getting shipped to me next week (10 sets). So i will begin the group buy. the msrp on the flares are $600/set, and i will be doing the first 10 sets at $500 shipped.

i know it's been a very long process and i apologize. the manufacturer has lagged (repeatedly) and i've been frustrated as well. at least it's all underway now.

thoughts?

Pics of the final product/install? There's a bunch of broken links on the first page.
