Yea, I was disappointed at first but then after finding out I was using the wrong plugs, I felt a little bit better [dunno]

Up next, Panda Intercooler, Freektune ASAP to reclaim my honor! [hihi]
Hey sorry to hear....that sucks about the plugs....very frustrating I'm sure....but at least you have a very good idea as to "why"...good luck!!

Why did you change the plugs? Heard the stock ones are fine.
I went 1 step colder with the NGK's because of I thought it would bring positive benefits, going along the lines of Mazdaspeed/Focus ST motors, expect they actually seem to have an colder plug that is of the correct dimensions for their application.

When it came to light that the NGK's we were running were actually not the correct dimensions (no extended electrode), I swapped back to what I thought was OE plugs, expect they were for the regular Fiesta [8], no extended electrode, 1 heat range higher.

Yes the OE plugs are really great, I am convinced now. Just check the gap, make sure they are within spec and call it a day!

I may have let a little turtle out at the time, lol. 120mph and something goes "phhuehhhhhh" 6 inches from your front-right tire...

Pick up a used MBRP 409 catback for cheap. So far I think it's way too loud.Much louder sounding than the video they have on it. I'm somewhat baffled as to why some of these companies produce such loud exhaust systems. Oh well, I might just weld in another small race muffler and see what happens.

I built my own exhaust with a removeable muffler for the track, straight pipe to replace it, etc...the exhaust has a 100 cell 5" cat, 18x5" SS resonator and an oval but smaller Borla SS race muffler with SS packing.

When the muffler is on the car is a bit to quiet except for off throttle, it is louder than during acceleration and cruising.

When I have the straight pipe on the off throttle noise is very loud at a certain RPM or if I let off under boost at that range then nuts loud.

I have never had an exhaust act like this one but I imagine that MPRB is not much fun either.

A muffler in the rear should help a great deal, bigger is better of course but finding one and keeping their ends might be tough if you want a straight through, most will be a bit long but perhaps you can trim the end sections and use it.

Pay attention to internal design of any single in, dual out, muffler, may are very restrictive.

I like your idea....also, have you ever considered adding an electric dump right after the downpipe? :) I say this because on mine, I'm considering cutting my borla catback after the resonator, then adding a new flange to mate to the 2JR downpipe and also adding an electric dump in place of the resonator. I like the sound of the borla and this would give me the ability to make it much louder with the flip of a switch...it may also pick up a few hp if tuned to it. I could have the tune added to my switchable tunes from my Accessport and be able to toggle back and forth.

I considered a dump but I do not like to add weight up front, already far to heavy there and not sure I want to dump all that hot air right under the car when on track which is the only place I would use it.

I have considered making the resonator easy to swap to a straight pipe but it would not be that easy since under a lowered car.

I've heard that it's loud as well, but exhausts mellow out after they burn in. I don't know if it will be mellow enough or not afterwards, but it should tone down some.

I gotcha...if I do it, I will be deleting the resonator as the borla muffler is fairly quiet anyhow, so I shouldn't be adding much weight if any.

How loud is loud? I am not against an aggressive sounding exhaust but I want to avoid "ricey rattles" or raspy. I like it to have grunt and sound mean - I know this isn't a V8, but I'd like to get as close to a growl as possible. The MBRP was the one I was considering the most with that in mind. Thanks for your opinion on it!

I think _RED_ has the MBRP. You could message him to see if he has a video or sound clip.

I recommend to add the muffler first then see how you like it.

If to quiet then pull the resonator, if not, saved yourself some trouble:)

I love a great sounding exhaust as much as anybody but I like it comfortable inside and more stealthy on the outside, saves a lot on ticket costs.

-------------------------

The problem with any hatch, wagon, pickup, etc is the cabin exhaust vents are in the the rear and let a lot of noise into the cabin.

I have stuffed some good acoustical foam into the cavities near them, sealed up some holes with peal and stick Ensolite foam, used a small amount of mat type deadening and it helps a lot. I also took off the hatch trim and sealed that up with a bit of mat and lots of PS Ensolite. By very careful application the added weight is minimal and makes for a much nicer driving experience, often times the intake and exhaust sound better due to reduced ambient noise from other sources.

There is a huge amount of acoustical energy in exhaust and sometimes intake flow so deadening can only do so much but a good sounding system, just like a good audio system and even stock, will get better, always on the audio, quite often on the other two:)

I have helped tens of thousands figure this out over the past 15 years or so and will be posting up more here when I get back to my car before long.

Not raspy or high pitched at all, quite opposite actually. Its very deep and bass-y, which kind of translates into a lot of noise and drone into the cabin. I've had my share of loud cars like a street ported rotary with no cats ( BRAP BRAP BRAAAAAP!), so I don't know maybe I'm just getting old haha.

The guy I bought it from said he was selling it because it was too loud also haha.

That's what I've heard from everybody also. That's why I'm staying away for it. Cobb is the only one that sounds perfect for what I'm looking for.

Thanks, I'll have to see if I can find some more audio clips of both. Unfortunately that doesn't always do them justice and hearing them in person is very unlikely beforehand so eventually I'll just have to take a chance. I appreciate the feedback though
