One thing I would like to see is less bouncyness to the tank. Right now it is only friction fit and can rattle. Being plastic it is not too bad, other than it will wear the tank, but once it it metal it will start to be louder and more annoying. Not too sure what options are available, maybe a clamp on the tabs squeezed by a bolt, maybe drill a hole in the tab of the car (not sure many would do this, I would), even having a strap onto the strut mount (maybe).
Very good point! We are aware of the potential for this to be an issue with our original design. Our engineers are currently working on a few solutions for this, one being a rubber sleeve to absorb the vibrations that this may see while driving. We are still in the process of testing these solutions to decide on the best one to move forward with. I will keep you all updated on this as well what we decide on for our final design!

I don't think anyone mentioned that after time the tanks plastic starts changing color. Getting darker and cloudy, sometimes so bad that you can't even tell where the fluid level is at anymore. That annoys me way worse than worrying about it cracking.

I don't expect this to happen for quite some time, I mean these are brand new cars still, and it may never happen at all, but worth noting.

That is a great point! One of the benefits to aluminum rather than plastic is that it will hold up better over time, even though the plastic may be in good shape now.

Just to follow up on what I said earlier, and because I had a fresh example the other day.

This tank was so discolored that you couldn't even see the coolant level anymore, and it was actually cracked on the bottom and leaking very slowly. The truck was only 5 years old. Granted, a different industry and subjected to way more heat and abuse than our cars, it still happens over time.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what material the OEM radiator is made out of?

Part 2: The Final Prototype

It has been a while since we took a look at what is going on in the world of the Fiesta expansion tank. In our last post we test fitted our 3D-printed prototype on the Fiesta ST. After fitment was confirmed, we played the waiting game for our final prototype’s arrival at our development facility. Our best efforts at being patient paid off when we had two packages arrive this morning!

Each expansion tank comes with an overflow hose and two rubber sleeves. The stock expansion tank is plastic, so rattling on the mounting points is not an issue. However, after upgrading the expansion tank to our all-aluminum version, we needed to prevent any rattling that may occur. The addition of these two rubber sleeves should do the trick! They slide over the stock mounting pegs to ensure that there will be no unnecessary rattling under the hood. After just a few minutes the expansion tank was installed and is looking great alongside Mishimoto’s other Fiesta ST parts in the engine bay.

The final prototype has been installed, tested, and it fits great. Now we can kick off the pre-sale for those of you who have been following our progress here on the forums. Stay tuned for more information on this and other Fiesta ST parts projects!

Thanks for Reading!

Any time frame for the pre-sale or a price target?

I'm interested if it is cheap.
Thanks for the interest! We are ironing out the final details of the pre-sale as we speak. The pre-sale post will have all of the details on the product including pricing. Keep an eye out for the pre-sale to start around the last week of January!
