So, who's gonna Guinea Pig?
I'll be your huckleberry! Ordered! I also queried him about either enlarging the bore on the stock TB, or substituting another product with the same bolt pattern. Yep, someone may have to tune to realize gains, but the car will probably be a little peppier with just a modified TB. We'll see. I have no idea how long it'll take to ship to an FPO address, but I'll install promptly upon arrival and report my findings.

Awsome. I also plan to try this aswell. Im not modded nearly as much as some of the guys but im looking at things that improve at a low cost

Update - "Thank you! Yes I see the order and payment for the 1.6L optimized throttle body. The factory throttle body is modified to provide greater air flow through a couple of techniques. The initial inlet to the TB is enlarged by 3-4 mm and then smoothly tapered to the TB plate area. The shaft profile is reduced to 1/2 the size leading to more open area for air to flow past the open plate. The air flow is further improved by polishing surfaces and reducing interference from things like exposed screws and protruding screw heads. (There's a pretty full description of the process in the Mazda section of the website.)

A larger TB will provide greater air flow and potentially greater power output, but It's difficult to keep the ECM computer from faulting with anything much different than the original TB. The advantage to an optimized throttle body is you get the performance gains of a larger TB with the stability of the factory part."

I'm bone stock with the exception of an OCC, and removal of some sound dampening crap. I only have about 1100 miles on the car, so I'm not sure if my butt dyno will register any gain. We'll see.

I was a "larger throttle body hater" when it came to turbo cars. But while testing some new ( at the time ) mods for company, I did their factory bored TB, and I'll be honest... It was much more improvement than I expected.

One side note... Our throttles being electrically driven, means that a tuner could make your throttle response better by modding the throttle tables per pedal position. No-less, I'll be adding this to the list to try asap among a ton of other things... For the price, its pretty nice.

The web site says a 60mm TB for the 1.6 EcoB, but when I went to order, it says 50mm TB. I'm not going to order until the actual size is confirmed...
