Wahoo, I just bought a set of 7.5 x 17 pro-race 1.2 (in bronze!). I have 12K on my stock tires which still have some life (and value), but I?m thinking I?d be better off with new rubber. I?d also like to keep the stock tires for later use (autox), or sell them with the stock rubber on. Taking the TPMS out of the stockers is an additional expense to remount the stock tires on the stock wheels not to mention they won?t have TPMS installed if the buyer needs them, so do I go with new TPMS inside the new wheels, or put them in a PVC pipe so I can keep all options open? I?ll likely have this done at my dealer who sells tires very cheap so they can reprogram the TPMS. So what are you guys doing in my situation? Is keeping the stock TPMS worth the effort and expense? How much is all this going to cost?

What is everyone doing about TPMS with new wheels?

sometimes they'll come already programed so you wont need the trigger tool, which was what I was banking on but didnt happen. Its not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, just the light comes on every now and then. Sometimes the light will stay off for a few days then pop up.

I guess don't understand how these work. I thought the car needed to recognize the TPMS in your wheels (and not the guy driving next to you) thus they always need to be programed. My understanding is you can only have 4 TPMS programed into your car at any one time. Therefor if I get new TPMS they will need to be programed, and then if I reinstalled my stock wheels with the stock TPMS that would trip the light.
If you use your old ones they will not have to be reprogammed. If you were to buy new ones you would have to get them synced to the vehicle. An activation tool from Ford is $40.00, it is relatively easy to do on your own if you have Ford OEM sensors, and in all takes about 5 minutes. I would recommend you only getting Ford OEM sensors as I've had lots of headaches with other brands then Ford.
Yes. If you are flipping between different sets, they need to be reprogrammed every time for the car to recognize them. You will need to buy the motorcraft trigger and follow the procedure to complete this.
I recommend buying everything from Tire Rack. Their TPMS sensors are from Shrader and are as good as the OEM ones. I would not buy the cheapos from eBay or Amazon.... A few member have found that those don't typically work. Just spend the ~$125. at Tire Rack and avoid the frustration...

I would NOT recommend buying from Tire Rack, I have gotten two verbal and one written statement from Tire Rack stating that the sensors they sell only work on some Fiesta's, granted I have a 2015, but I went through the hassle of 3 sets, I repeat 3 sets of tire racks sensors and the ford dealership could not get any of them to work. Tire Rack did not reimburse me for the new Ford Set despite them not selling working sensors and me purchasing them. TPMS is a very fussy system to begin with, buy the Ford OEM ones and you will not have a problem, if you buy generic you will rolling the dice.
