Which summer tire.

I read a few pages back looking for a thread and didn't see anything.

Coming up on 15,000 miles on my car on the stock tires I am nearing the time to replace the tires. I like the stock tires but want to know what else is it there that has been used in our cars with good reviews from members here.

I plan on getting to Stage 3 protune power levels in the next year, so grip is important. I'm considering going with a 215/40 or 215/45 on the stock rims with whatever I choose.

I've looked at Michelin Pilot super sports and ADVAN Neova AD08Rs as two possible choices. I know they aren't in the same class with the Michelin having almost double the treadwear rating but the reviews for both on other cars seem excellent.

I'm in Mississippi, so hot summers and mild winters are the name of the game.

Just want to see if anyone has any better suggestions for my application.

Had DZ2 before loved them in the dry and the wet good tire went with BFG Rival-S this time as the size i wanted was limited. good grip but said to wear quick. also hearing lots of good stuff about the Bridgestone RE71 and a great tire also good in the wet but i have not run that one so I cant say for sure.. check out the last two issues of Grassrootsmotorsports magazine they have a bit about summer tires.

I recently purchased some 215/40R-17 DUNLOP DIREZZA ZII STAR SPEC tires from Tirerack.com. So far, I'm liking the performance of this tire. They do hum a bit at about 70 MPH, but that could be due to the way California cuts grooves into the concrete roads. I'm very pleased with these tires and would recommend them.

Yes, the Dunlops have better dry grip than the Brigestones, but they are noiser at the limit of adhesion. Like Razorlab said they sound like angry bees. Now that I have the 2JR intake, that noise between 70 and 80 MPH has been drowned out.

Thanks, yeah they seem to be a forum favorite and I was thinking of a set myself.

Thanks guys, now I'm split between the Advan and the Dunlop. The Dunlop gets good reviews here, but most road tests put the Advan as the better tire.

I may take one for the team and try the Advan and report back. I'll get the chance to try others as I run the crap out of the car.

To those that say the donlops have better dry grip. Does the added width have anything to do with it? Has anyone run the dunlops in the stock tire size?

They dont make the nt05 in the stock tire size. I would be interested in those. The nt01 would be good for the auto cross or road course but would wear very fast as a DD

I've been daily driving and occasional autocrossing on AD08Rs, they hum on the freeway and get louder as you wear them down.
When new their dry and wet grip is fantastic! It's noticeably less grippy as you wear them down and heat cycle them through.
Wouldn't say they are terrible, but having experienced them when new, they are certainly not the same with some age.

I saw those and the price is pretty good on them. My only concern is they wont be as good or better than the stock tire in performance. Since these tires seem to be aim at more of a DD vs the nt05 or the 555

I have got about 7000 on my RE050A set and am already looking at replacing them with the Potenza RE760s.
