Thanks for the words. I'll wait and see what mishimoto has to say. To be honest, I just want one that I don't have to worry about. If I have to, I'll buy a different catch can kit. I hope it doesn't come to that though.

I couldn't agree more with you, its been a bit a process figuring my issues out with this OCC but can't afford to switch to another OCC, living in Canada doesn't help our dollar is so crappy which makes it an expensive proposition to find a new OCC.

A few more kits have been released since this one too. Anyway, I'm not giving up yet. Hope to have something from Mishimoto tomorrow. I'll be curious what they say.

I have not monkeyed with the hoses at all since install and have not had these issues. No smells, no blow-by. Are you loosening the whole can assembly from the hoses and removing it completely to empty it?

Are these the same connectors as the OEM hoses? If so, I've replaced mine, by purchasing the OEM part from Rockauto. Then cutting and peeling off the hose. Another thing I've noticed is that you need to pull the locking mechanism towards the hose to disengage it, so you don't mess up the o-rings in the connectors. I use a pair of channel lock pliers, pull the lock against the end of the connector, and then pull the hose end out. If you can, its better to pull the bare hose end off of the OCC, and leave the two connectors connected. I'm using the generic Mishimoto OCC with clear, wire reinforced hoses, located near the ABS module/passenger side strut tower. I have enough room to pull the can off and dump it without pulling the hoses. The only time I pull the whole OCC off is when I take my car to the dealer.

Nope. To empty my can I simply unscrew the bottom of it and empty it out. All hoses and connectors stay in-tact. I never monkeyed with the hoses until yesterday when I took the engine cover off when I was cleaning up the engine bay.

Just we are clear, the hoses weren't soaked in oil or anything. The can is catching blow-by; I just don't think the light oil film on the hoses near the connectors is normal.

Yes. Same connectors. They come with the Mishimoto kit.

Odd question but I'm hoping mishimoto can help.

Is it normal for the hoses to have a little oily residue on them on the outside? I didn't notice this with the stock hose and after about 5k miles on mine (and a second empty) I noticed that both hoses (into the can and out of the can) have an oily film on them near the PCV and can fittings. Input... Help?

I checked my clamps as well as the fittings. Both were a little lose so I went ahead and tightened things up. That being said, I wouldn't say they were lose enough to cause any sort of leak.
Hi Chris, apologies that you're running into this issue. Judging by the discussion that is going on it seems to me that the oily film is isolated to near the connectors, is that correct? It is possible that either the fittings in the can or the quick release fittings were not tight enough therefore not creating a good seal and some oil escaped onto the hose. We would be happy to send replacements, but would still like to try to troubleshoot this to ensure that it does not occur again. I sent you a PM, would you mind replying with some photos so I can talk it over with the engineers on this project. Thank you for your assistance!

I did receive your PM and just responded. Thank you. I disconnected and reconnected the quick release fittings yesterday as well as cleaned up the hoses a bit to see if the issue goes away. Time will tell and I'll continue posting updates (or PM you guys).

Thank you! We would appreciate updates so we can isolate the issue and get it fixed.

The gloop that accumulated in mine wouldn't come out of a drain. I had to wip of the screen and use brake cleaner.

We have heard that during cold months the blow by can become thicker therefore harder to drain, however it appears that you live in a warmer climate. If you run into the issue in the future you can try warming up your ST before attempting to drain, it may make the fluid easier to drain.

I think the high humidity here combines in the catch can with the oil vapor. That moisture that would normally burn off in the crankcase doesn't in the catch can. It coagulates in the hoses also.

Absolutely, I've seen some trucks that come in for oil changes that have been sitting for a bit have some of that gunk on the oil cap. Once they get run for a bit and warm up most of that excess condensation evaporates and you won't find a trace of it in the system. That being said, as stated above, given the catch can is a bit removed from the hotter engine components, it'll take a bit for any build up in there warm up and flow a bit freer.

Is it? Alright, i just watched thier install video so it thru me a curveball when i realized i have a complete different bracket
That's the old bracket, they had issues with the bracket in the install video breaking so thus the revised bracket. I too got the revised bracket mailed to me, might install it one day if I feel like it. I know they said they didn't update the install video yet.

Any clue where the mounting points are I can't seem to find them just by looking
