Emptied the OOC at 1k miles and this is what it caught. I was reading on another forum that murkiness is normal, especially in cold weather. It took me about 10 minutes to empty by simply unscrewing it and lifting it out. Once detached it is a little difficult lift out, but once you figured out the path, I should be able to empty by hand with no drain or detaching anything in about 5 minutes.
I haven't been following the bracket issue. Is it cause for concern?
Whew! Bad looking fluid. I would let it stand a day and see what shows up. Maybe its water vapor being captured with oil, be nice to know its not something else.
Yea the other forum said it was water vapor from the crank case and it happens in cold weather. The car has 1.5k and I really have been pretty easy on her through break in. I may change the oil and see how it looks just to set my mind at ease and let the waste settle as you suggested.
Check under the oil cap. If it does not look the same, you are OK
We have seen this happen in cold weather before. To air on the side of caution we suggest that you check the dipstick (or change the oil as you suggested) to make sure that it doesn't look like that inside the engine as well.

As for the bracket update, it is not an immediate cause for concern as we have only seen a handful of failures. In the meantime we suggest you keep an eye on your bracket for signs of racking or fatigue. That being said we are working on producing a version 2 bracket that will solve this issue, that should be completed shortly. Look for another post on this within the next few days!

Fiesta ST Catch Can Bracket Update

I have good news! The Version 2 brackets are currently in stock and ready to ship! I would ask that you all read this update fully and follow the process we have set up in order to receive your bracket as soon as possible.

The Version 2 brackets are not required. The Version 1 bracket has held up in the majority of situations. That being said, everyone is entitled to a Version 2 bracket whether or not their Version 1 has failed.

Please follow the directions below in order to allow us to keep this organized and efficient.

How to get your Version 2 bracket:

If you have any questions please let me know! Thanks again for your patience as we work to get everyone new brackets.

Hello Sara,

I sent you a PM earlier today in the hopes you would answer before I ordered, but I ordered anyways. When you have a minute, could you please reply to my PM? Order# 20814.

Just picked up my ST about a month ago and am interested in picking up a catch can from you guys in the near future! I do have one question though, which may have been answered somewhere in the 28 pages of this thread, so sorry if it's been answered already, but what is the purpose of the drain kit that is available for the catch cans? Thanks!

The drain kit allows for a tube and petcock to be remotely mounted, thus allowing the user to drain the can from underneath the car, without removing the can from the bracket. The prefab kit is avail through Mishimoto, though many simply source the component parts from the home or auto store and fad one up themselves for a fraction of the money.

Or, there are people like me who are so cheap, they just remove their headlight, (a simple, quick process), to gain access to the can. This has the added benefit of giving one an enhanced view of the accessory drive side of the engine for purposes of inspection.

I will say I have noted a strong deformation of the O ring after just 3 empties. I will likely replace the O ring next time around with something resistant to degradation and stretching.

The main reason for the optional drain kit was to provide several methods for which to empty the can. We find that everyone prefers their own method and we want to leave it up to the user to decide what works best for them. You can certainly add on our drain kit, or make your own, in order to drain without taking apart the catch can, or any part of your Fiesta. You can also remove the bracket to get to the catch can, or remove the headlight to access the catch can. Completely up to you!

I have to say that was a pretty spot on explanation, thank you!

As for your O-Ring, we have seen in some cases where there is more fuel present in the blow-by, the O-Ring tends to stretch out over time. We would be more than happy to provide you with another O-Ring to replace the one that has stretched. The best way is to get in touch with our customer service team at 1877GOMISHI with a photo or two and they will get one shipped out to you. Of course if you need any assistance with this feel free to send me a PM.

Thanks again for the explanation!

Keep your intake clean! Ford Fiesta ST Oil Catch Can R&D by Mishimoto

Odd question but I'm hoping mishimoto can help.

Is it normal for the hoses to have a little oily residue on them on the outside? I didn't notice this with the stock hose and after about 5k miles on mine (and a second empty) I noticed that both hoses (into the can and out of the can) have an oily film on them near the PCV and can fittings. Input... Help?

I checked my clamps as well as the fittings. Both were a little lose so I went ahead and tightened things up. That being said, I wouldn't say they were lose enough to cause any sort of leak.

I've had the same issue, I talked to Mishimoto and they sent me new hoses. I have a feeling that perhaps after multiple times taking the hose on and off the little o-rings are some how failing. I was getting a gassy smell in my car, worked with Mishimoto and they sent me a new big o-ring for the can and new plastic barbs as some how my big o-ring started to stretch thought heard someone say it was caused due to higher levels of gas going through the system then what they thought would occur. I'm going to make my own drain kit and install the new hoses in the hopes the little o-rings don't fail again.

That's the thing, I've never taken the hose off except for when I installed the thing. Other than that, they've remained on. Assuming you're talking about the two little O-rings in the OEM-like connector.

I did notice that it was EASY (almost too easy) to get the hose off at the PCV when I was inspecting it. Wouldn't surprise me if it's messed up. Crappy part is that's the first time I've ever tried taking it off.

Now I'm starting to wonder if this is the reason I'm getting a slightly funky idle when my car is 100% warmed up.

Yes that's what I'm talking about the two little o-rings on the oem like quick disconnect. I know when I installed the kit taking off the oem quick connectors took some work for sure. But these ones they gave in the kit are a lot easier, maybe I was doing something wrong originally and have gotten better at disconnecting them.
