How to permanently enable reversing camera?

NO, as Ford will NOT program it to work.
This is NOT an option that is dealer installed.
Ford will only program the BCM to "As Built" by VIN.


BTW, even if you could get it programmed, the parts from FORD would be more than the NAN-TV unit.

So then in reality it will work. You only need a dealer to do it then. I prefer to go factory equipment when available because it normally works better an ofcourse looks OEM. Maybe i can get this done.

The dealer does NOT reprogram the BCM.
This IS done at the dealer but via internet connection by FoMoCo.
They will NOT program the BCM except to AS BUILT condition.
So even if you buy all the parts you will not get it to work.

I too wanted it to look as close to factory as possible.
NAV-TV has the hardware and a camera that does look very much like factory.
They also provide the needed programming.
This IS as close as it gets.

The Focus community uses cameras sourced from the Titanium trim and then enables them in the BCM with FoCCCus. All you need is an Elm327 and a laptop. It was originally designed for the Mk3, but ST owners have utilized it as well, and it's reported to work on other Fords such as the Escape and F-150 (though I haven't actually tried confirming). It's worth looking into and trying out.

If I am not mistaken the Focus, F150, and other Fords have a video input that is used.
The Fiesta does not have this input.
Or at least the camera was available as a factory option so the wiring is already in the car.
I did look into all of this prior to installing the system that I have now.

I would like to see if anyone could make it work but the cost of parts for the Fiesta also gets out of hand.
If you did use all factory parts, you would need to change the rear wiring harness.
That alone is over $800.00

The NAV-TV system is also not cheap at about $750.00 with the correct type camera.
It does come with everything you need and it does work and look almost exactly like factory.
You really would be hard pressed to tell the difference.

If all you want is a backup camera system, there are many available from the aftermarket.
Some stand alone systems I am sure could be triggered to stay on all the time.

It becomes mandatory on all US cars in 2017.

NO, you don't have to put one in your car.

Yeah I understand that side of it but does that mean everycar sold in US needs it or cars built in US?

I am thinking of more euro cars ferrari etc. requiring them in all models to be eligible to be sold. Etheir way it seems pretty nerfed to me.

Your welcome to your opinion. But doesnt mean its correct. There is always a way to get programing if you try hard enough or have friends that work at the dealership.

You are correct.
However I did try.

I know the owner of the dealership very well.
His son (now new owner) once dated my daughter.
The shop Forman has been a friend for over12 years, I do programming and work with him on a different model.
I also know the tech that does the programming work on all the cars that go through their shop.

I don't believe they would all lie to me.

As I also said, the Fiesta ST does not have the camera wiring, so you will need buy a harness.
You could of course wire it yourself but then you are not using all factory parts.
The camera, hatch handle, hatch release button, and the two harnesses are all available from Ford.
Then I guess, hacking the system is a viable factory part.
Please know too that the Sync II system in the Fiesta is different than most other Fords.

I did look all this up before installing mine as I like to use the factory setup as well.

I am not trying to argue with you.
Using ALL factory parts is NOT a plug and play, it will take a bit of work.
And it still wont stay on all the time, as this topic originally started.

Anyway good luck in your endeavor I really do hope you can make it work.
This would provide another option for those that want to add it.

This is what i thought. This is the answer i was looking for.

I don't know if it will work or not (obviously), but if it does then it can definitely be the interface needed to complete the setup. I would start there before trying to source additional parts because it could be a huge waste of money to buy everything and later find out that it doesn't work for whatever reason.

I bought ebay item 281510046439, plugged it all in to factory harnesses, no cutting or modding, disconnected battery, reconnected battery, turned car on, put in reverse and it worked fine...

That is very much like the NAV-TV system that I have.
It really is plug n play.
The hardest part was running the camera wire down the side of the car and into the hatch door.
The install is in another thread.
I chose to use a camera provided by the same vendor that looked very close to the factory unit.

However with mine the camera is sold separately so I could have actually used the Ford camera.
And as I have said, the display looks very much like a factory install.

No muss, no fuss, and it works very well.

My only worry is, does a SYNC update done at the dealership revert the BCM back to no camera? If yes is it simply redoing the software part or does the aftermarket vendor need to provide a patch?

Sync has nothing to do with it.
Only a reprogram of the BCM would change it.
Even if the BCM were to get reprogrammed by the dealer the provided software can be reinstalled.

Looks like the ebay unit is less expensive than the NAV-TV unit. Looks like the cameras are of equal quality. I think this is my next non-performance purchase, once I get everything else installed that I already have.
