clacking noise when shifting from first to second

Hello,

I am experiencing a clacking noise when I shift from first to second. I only notice it at low speeds ( under 2500 rpm). When I shift from first to second I hear a clack, clack noise. It does it to third as well. It isn't hard to get into gear or anything. My car currently has under 3000 miles on it. I might of just starting noticing it, or maybe it's normal for these cars to do this. Maybe I'm just paranoid because this is my first new car purchase and I don't want any problems. Any input would be greatly appreciated. If anyone else experiences this, let me know.

Does it do this noise with the car running or not ? You could have someone shift the car while you noodle about under the hood if it does it while not running and see if it is just that big honkin counterweight on the shift selector bumping or banging into something near or at the end of travel . you may have to move a few bit around to get a good view but you should be able to hear it ok without much moving parts out of the way.

It's normal. Either this gearbox is just a little clacky or it's a harmonic of some sort. I get it most going in to first at a stop. I kind of enjoy the sound. The sound of the DMF is more obnoxious IMO.

After further trouble shooting, it's a little different sound with the car not running. I can hear it when I'm slowly reversing. If I am pushing the clutch in and backing up slowly I can hear a little clack similar to the one when shifting from first to second. It makes me think that this is a clutch noise?

I have a clack 1st to 2nd. Only way to et a quiet smooth shift is change into 2nd over 3k and off clutch pretty slowly. My clutch is solid. I'll poke around a bit more but I dont have the car, its at ford for a motor mount.

Ahhh Yes I totally spaced out the dual mass flywheel click click noise it makes on engagement as it takes up the play in the springs.. great point thanks

When I had my DMF in yes it made some unique noises if it listnened and played around with it.. but after a while it became just part of the normal car features .. and now I have the solid lightweight Spec flywheel install but have yet to drive it much as my car is away getting tuned and used for a little R&D work at DHM..
