Looks like a pretty easy and straight forward install. I would go ahead and upgrade to stainless brake lines while I was under there.

Yes, I have a few thoughts.

I have been testing/using this set on my car for quite some time now.
This is a VERY cost effective way to get a big brake kit.
The added stopping force is just phenomenal.

The true racer will complain about the additional 5 lbs. of weight per wheel (front) due to the oversized rotor and hardware.
However for the daily driver it is not that of a big deal.
Lighter rotors could be used but it would drive the cost way up.

I just called Mark Lapp at Gold Coast Automotive after seeing this and he will now start producing the parts.
The "Ball Park" price for the fronts is about $450.00 but Mark is trying to shave the cost any way he can.
This price includes the basic rotor option (not drilled or slotted) plus all mounting hardware.

Please understand that mine are the prototype parts.
The production parts will look a little better.

Dave, thanks for the information! I placed a call as well, but sounds like you provided all the information needed.
How long have you been running the kit? Have you used the kit on the track, and if so, how does it compare to the stock brakes. And which pads were you using?

Anyone know if the kit fits under stock wheels?

Very interested. Are the rotors easily obtainable for replacement in the future or are they custom made?

Yes, the kit fits with the stock FiST wheels.
I am using the FRPP Focus Rally Wheels for the street and stock for the track.

Yes, I have used them on the track.
Yes, they provide a tremendous increase in stopping force.
I am using OE pads.
More aggressive pads I am sure would be better but I do not want eat up the rotors any quicker.

Yes, the rotors are "Off the Shelf".
However they do need to be drilled to the FiST bolt pattern.
The rotors are provided correctly drilled by Gold Coast Automotive.
Additionally you can order the kit without rotors, purchase and drill them yourself.
However I don't think you will beat the price.

I don't understand how this increases stopping force or makes it stop any shorter? It still has same caliper, pad, brake lines, booster, master cylinder, and same clamping force. The article claims, "The larger rotor gives more thermal mass and more swept area as well as giving the caliper more leverage on the tire contact patch. The big rotor should make a significant difference in both fade resistance and overall stopping power."

I can see how the added circumference/distance the pads travel around the rotor may affect brake fade after repeated stops, but a stock size rotor replacement and pad can do that just as well. Can someone explain how thermal mass and added sweep area affects overall stopping power.

The larger diameter rotor moves the caliper further away from rotational center.
This changes the position of the fulcrum.
It is simple physics.

I have been doing this type disk brake upgrade for over 40 years now.
Believe me, just increasing rotor diameter helps a great deal.

Great way to have more brakes for a lower cost!!!!

I am all about weight reduction but for those with a tighter budget, limited track time, etc.....this is a great way to go:)

As for drilling rotors if you can find the same quality for a good local price and do not mind a bit of DIY is is pretty simple and does not even need to be perfect as the rotors are hub centric and the bolt holes are a bit over sized anyway.

If you can buy rotors for a good price already done then that will be the best option obviously.

I do recommend just slotted rotors, skip the drilled rotors for track use unless these particular ones hold up well, most tend to crack when used that hard.

I agree as to not using drilled rotors.
However this is the prototype set and it is all the vendor had in stock.
So for the price that I got them for, I will use them until they do crack.

If only these fit 16in. wheels.
I believe that they do.

However some rims are different than others.
Based on the amount of clearance in the 17s I have, they should fit most 16s.
I just don't have any 16s to test them.
I may be looking into this more closely when my next set of tires come due.

I've left voicemail messages with them to no avail. Do anyone know if he is selling kits already?

Not sure how I over looked these 4 months ago. Looks like a great setup !!

What's the total cost?
What's the total cost of a 4 wheel brake upgrade via the big names?

I've checked with vendor and never heard back from them. Try McRib on the over forum as I think it was developed off his car.

I paid $900 for the Wilwood front BBK with plain rotors from 2J Racing. Not sure about the rear, but have been told it costs about as much as the front because the rear hubs have to be replaced as well.

Hope that helps!
