Hey folks-as we move our way through the platform we've found another area that could seriously benefit from some strengthening. The 2-Point REAR Lateral Trunk Braces provide that last bit of rear chassis strengthening by joining two more points directly above the rear coil spring buckets/suspension. These two mounting positions /anchors ensure suspension stability in the rear chassis/unibody by minimizing flex-they improve the road feel and handling characteristics of daily drivers, spirited street driving or track performance driving. As with all our products we've utilized 4130 Chromoly for it's strength and more important rigidity---being 10x stronger than aluminum at similar thicknesses and 3X more rigid than mild steel allows us to get the strongest and lightest bracing for our cars! The install is fairly simple and requires basic handtools with just minimal mechanical ability to install---here's a link to the installations thread/pics/instructions- http://www.fiestastforum.com/forum/threads/5561-Another-Item-from-Pierce-Motorsports

As we do with most of our products we're offering them at a discount and with free shipping to start---we've built 20 units and they're going to powdercoating shortly---but we'll build more to accommodate everyone's interest. Currently they'll be $89 shipped here in the states and just $14 more to Canada. They'll retail for $99 plus shipping so there's some good savings for those that want to take advantage of it. Just PM here with your paypal info and we'll fire off an invoice-thanks! Oh!!! Next up rear torsion bars!!! Currently being tested! Three different rates for Street/Track/Race!

These serve the same purpose as the other torsion bars on the market? Just wondering. I'll be ordering if so. Love the 2 pt brace I have.

EDIT: Never mind just read the while post. Ha. What's the difference between this and a torsion bar?

That's a great question! So we'll have a torsion bar out pretty shortly-three different choices in fact, but it serves a different purpose than the lateral trunk brace. So a torsion bar adds stiffness to the rear torsion beam---the beam is designed to twist for suspension compliance/comfort and tries it's best to mimic independent rear suspension. Adding the torsion reduces the amount of twist/adds torsional resistance/higher rate and effectively reduces roll couple in the rear suspension/chassis.

This brace (lateral trunk brace) ties the unibody together just above the rear suspension/coilbucket area. Cars/suspension is designed with a certain frequency to match it's intended market---the ST is designed for sport while the base car is designed for economy---unfortunately the chassis/unibody is generally the same, but the rear spring rates/shock dampening is not. The ST of course is a bit stiffer/more heavily dampened which causes much more movement/flexion back there. The springs cause much more movement/have a much higher effective rate than the dampeners (unless they bottom or are used as a droop stop) so they should be addressed first. This brace helps minimize the movement and lets the spring do it's job---this effectively adds more precision/feel for the driver and helps make the car more predictable. The movement in these unibody shells can be massive---we've had things move as much as 3/16" in testing so our braces functionally help reduce that. Hope this helps!!!

Thanks that makes sense. I'll wait for the torsion bar personally but this part sounds good also.

Quick question, off topic but would it be safe to say the 2 pt brace matches up with the street torsion, 4 pt brace with the track and 6 pt with race variation?

That's great insight and likely how the packages will be created. Folks will mix/match according to their tastes/rulesets if competing---for time attack sky's the limit really so we'll go big---for a daily and for like NASA's TT groups you'll likely see the 2 point with the race variation torsion because of the points penalties---autoX will have even different combinations based on the class. Greg Greenbaum is NASA's National Time Trial director (I'm NASA's West Coast Rally TECH) and he's figured out what to assign mods based on performance values---it's very interesting how many points they assess for chassis braces---the penalize it higher than some AERO mods/upgraded LSD's for most cases because they feel it reduces laptimes more...We add (and it's legal in every class) lot's of lower chassis braces on the rally cars and even attach the underbody protection to them in some cases because of their effectiveness and the abuse the cars see on stage...

That makes. I don't autocross but that's what I was thinking. I'll definitely be getting the street torsion bar to go with my 2 pt brace for my occasional spirited daily driving. Ha.

Sign me up for that when it comes out!

Good to see these are moving along - I'm excited to get mine along with the front 2 point!
Hey Chris-we can ship those today with the 2 point front powdercoated and the Lateral rear trunk brace raw if you like-several folks have opted for that/want to shoot custom colors. If not we'll send this batch out for powdercoating this week as soon as we figure out how many more we need.

I just installed mine this weekend. I did a pre-order and got mine in the mail last Friday. The upper seat brace fits like a glove. There is a bit of trimming necessary for both of the plastic brackets which hold the tray that sits over the spare tire. I used a combination of a step drill and a Dremel with a sanding tube and en exacto blade. I found that if you push the seats forward, you can get a wrench on the safety head fastener to remove and install the seat brace easier. I also stuck a long, flat screw driver in between the tire and the brace, so as to get the holes for the brace to line up with the hole in the brackets that the brace bolts into. Then after the brace is installed, just keep removing plastic from the corner of the plastic brackets. Once you have trimmed these brackets enough, the two clips on the inside of these brackets will again fit the side brackets that they bolt into. Then re-install the 7mm bolts, cover up the brace with the tray, and put your stuff back into the trunk. This was the easiest brace of the 2pt strut and 6 pt lower brace install so far. I plan on getting the sway bar and the last brace that sits near the back of the chassis, as soon as the sway bar comes out.

Thanks Jim and Dave for your efforts to stiffen up the Fiesta ST chassis. Your parts really make a difference in the handling.
